High yielding strains, techniques etc

yo, im looking to grow a plant soon & have similar success to what i had this time last year, me & friend got 10 oz off 1 plant (cheese/skunk cuttings) this time last year, it was started on 29th of november & done by february, with a massive unexpected 10 oz dry...
Basically i think we veged it for 8 weeks using canna nutes vega, flores, rhizotonic, cannazym & boost.. & thats how we got such a yield i think , but want to know for sure, so is it the strain or veg time that will bring a big yield:?:

Veg time goes with light intensity and grow room size. The stronger the lights, the further away they can support healthy plant life and the bigger you can grow your plants, as long as you have the grow room space. Ideally, you should veg your plants so that when they finish flowering, the lowest buds get just enough light to grow. Longer veg also means slightly longer flowering time. Each plant can only support so many colas before adding more heads just makes the other ones smaller. Keep this in mind when topping the plant and growing new shoots.

We grow until the fourth node, top it so there are 3 nodes, top the two main stalks that grow after topping and let it recover almost a week before going into flowering. Our primary strain will then finish at 2.5ft with 5-6 heads.

cheers for the reply,
on my successful plant, we topped that to stop it from getting any taller, il get to topping when the time comes, mainly im asking if a long veg period should give me a high yield..
im gonna be using a light made from around 6 cfl's for veg, then 400w for flower. i can let the plant get to around 4 ft in the wardrobe itl be in

Lets say your strain doubles in size during flowering. A 400w light won't support healthy growth more than about 3.5' away from the bulb. Minus a foot for space between the lamp and tops, you've got 30" of vertical plant height that your light can support. In this case, your max veg height would be 15" because if you grew it any taller, the light wouldn't be able to reach the bottom of the plant.

So more vegging increases yield as long as your lights (&pots btw) can support the bigger plant.

What type of lighting setup did you use? You could possibly do a complely surrounded plant with lighting (hanging T5's vertically) and then create a completely lit plant. Just an idea. May be a bit hard to vent, but you would have every part of the plant lit. That combine with some crafty LST'ing could yield very well.

When i last grew properly we always made sure the light was 21 inch away from the plant, & it seemed to be perfect that way

I used a 400W hps inside a 3x3 6ft wardrobe (guessing the size but its roughly that)..but this time im making a cfl light setup for veg, since the heat is pumped almost directly out of the wardrobe to the outside of my house, i kno 400w is supposedly nothing to worry about, but then its going straight outside & choppers fly about, it gets be a bit paranoid....plus the electric bill was massive before so wanna cut that down with CFL's.. & switch to 400w hps for flower
heres a pic of the plant before it got chopped

with out supplemental lighting 4 foot plants for a 400 may not be a good idea. if 2/3 of your bud comes from the upper part of the plant i would concentrate on that, a 400 has 24 inches of light penetration.

Well that plant turned out great, lots of bud & near the bottom smaller buds that dried faster & gave me somethin to smoke before the good bit was dry..i see your point tho but i wanna replicate that grow as best i can
