HID lights a little discouraging SUGGESTIONS?

Hey i am going to start my first SMALL closet grow and have been nonstop researching for a while now. At first i said "fuck it, i am going to get serious with my grow and use some type of HPS/MH light." After researching i have realized that a lot comes with HID lights especially with growing in a small closet. I am not interested in cutting a hole in my land lords closet for exhaust/intake so i think i might use CFL's. My research has showed me that opening the grow room door a couple times a day with CFL would be good enough for ventilation. It does suck that i wont use my closet to the best of its ability so if there is any way that anyone can help me think of some ways for ventilation with a 250/400 watt HID, that would be awesome. Is it still very likely that if i do everything right with my CFL's then i can have a good yield per plant? I will have 3 plants in a 4ft by 3ft by 6ft closet; what wattage/lumens do you guys think i should get. I already have an idea but reassurance is nice.
Thanks a lot this site has been amazing.

Honestly, I would go with a low-wattage HPS light rather than a bunch of CFLs. HID lights actually produce less heat per watt (and lumen) than flourescents.

Personally I bought a 150 watt HPS security light from Lowes and converted it to a grow light. I'm also growing in a small(ish) closet with no ventilation system at all with no problem. Temp stays within range, however I do leave the door cracked when the light is on.

Buy a 150 watter or order a 250 online and see how it goes. I love mine.

My CFL vegg area gets hotter than my HPS flower area too.
I have 12 26w CFL and with ventilation in and out and it gets warmer than the 400w HPS that has the same ventilation.

If your handy in any way, buy a few HPS security light and build your own reflector and you'll be set.
