Hello all new here to RIU. I just recently acquired a grow tent and some lights from someone who had no use for them anymore and had them laying around. I have some grows under my belt but they are outdoors. Didn't get to grow this past season due to the reason was selling house and moving. I am now in my new location and have been a few months. My grow tent is 48"x48"x78". I acquired 2 400w hps systems they are magnetic not the digital kind and the tent. I have a few hundred to spend and have already bought new hps bulbs and 2 400w mh conversion bulbs for veg. I currently plan on upgrading my reflectors to air cooled to keep heat down, but for the time being I would just like to look into getting a exhaust fan and an intake fan. With both lights on since I would run over night the tent gets to about 85f. My tent is in the basement which stays a cool 65-70f during the day and somewhat cooler in night throughout summer and I'm sure will go down somewhat over winter. I plan on exhausting out the basement to the outside and pulling the cool basement air into tent. I run a dehumidifier in basement so stays in the 40-50 range. So my question is what kind of inline fan do I need, and exhaust fan? I wanna go 6 inch if possible for exhaust due to the reflector I'm looking at would be 6 inch for th air cooled. What are some good brands something quiet if possible that doesn't make loud noise? Also what are some good filters for smell?

Fans are all about the same ..... One for the light and one for the filter would be the right way.... Keep the ducting straight and use clamps

The cheap filters on eBay or amazon work the stuff from the hydo store lasts longer

Prob will order online just from a hydro store unless eBay or Amazon have the brand for less not some cheap stuff. Just don't understand the cfm etc and what I need as far as is exhaust larger than the in one? Like do I get a 4 inch in and 6 in exhaust or other way around? How do I add in the light do I need say 10% more cfm then etc?

You should use one fan for the light going straight thru ... A filter hung from the top connected to a six inch inline outside the tent.... Two ducts into a y and out

I would just use the air vent squares at the bottom and let it pull the air thru but you could close them and intake w a six in duct fan

Probably get away w a duct fan for the light

Don't forget clamps

If you are in a basement and its cold out at night or its the cold gloomy time of year, a whole bunch of ventilation will make it difficult to keep your cannabis growing in the proper temperature range especially in a tent wich in my experience can be drafty as hell. I had to run a heater constantly from September to June . That was a 5x5 tent (not a cheap one) I ran 1 600 watt M.H/H.P.S with a 175 cfm intake with a speed control. That was in a garage in the PAC-NW not even a basement... Way too cold for a tent so I went back to a plywood Grow room. Lots of ventilation is awesome and desirable but not if you can't keep your temps regulated. Most people worry about heat (too hot) issues but I believe that yours will be quite the opposite. You may not want to siphon all that free warm air off of that bulb. Just saying.

Will keep that in mind. There is a wood burning stove in the basement that I could use to make little fire to raise temps some if needed. I understand heat rises and temps wouldn't change much but does something for no cost. I don't mind running a space heater if needed, electricity and cost won't bother me. I do understand that if I do buy the air cooled ones I could always remove the glass and not run the fan. I just wanna buy once and only once. So taking into consideration the summers I'd just like to have the air cooled. I also have the 2 open reflectors that came with them so they could always be used again and switched out. A controller sounds nice I'll prob want to pick one of those up to. I am on the east cost so winter can be hit miss where I am, could be cold, could be not so bad.

I
Speed controller don't do much w a six inch fan.....basements don't get that cold anyhow
don't know crap about basements so I can't say much about that other than you may be right. However if basements run warmer than garages that's great but my garage sits at a comfortable 42 degrees in the winter maybe colder. It's easy to overkill ventilation in the winter here .

upload_2015-9-27_23-4-21.jpeg Hydrofarm its like $50 I have this hooked up to 1000w and it works fine. I think its been running for 5 years at 11hrs a day. so you can say its been running for 2 1/2 years.

Would a high velocity inline fan rated at 424cfm good for the exhaust on the top
The one I posted is 471 cfm and its quiet. Some of the other ones get real loud.
My first one was so loud I could hear it upstairs it sounded like a hair dryer I took it back to the store.

You might need to smoke a hooter and figure out a way to mount it. As I recall it was a bit of an engineering process for me.

Thanks for the input yea one I was looking at is 100.00 and 52db

guys im switchng from cfl to 1000w hps in a 4x4x6 grow ROOM ... made of drywall and 2x4 boards.... i have 1 6in exhaust fan and 1 6 inch intake fan... my 1000w hps unfortunatley doesnt have cool tube or air cooled hood its just a plain batwing style... i also have a 12in isocillating fan in there.... here are my options... frame an airconditioner mount on the side wall. put a fan blowing str8 on my light... i dont have any ducting so i wouldnt be running hoses to the ac id just have it blowing in there .... was wondering if i can just remove the ceiling from my grow room for the heat to escape since heat rises... odor control isnt a concern i smoke all day anyways... also there is nothing else in the area where my grow room is so theres no lights or anything on ....

Not to be rude, new and all here, but y jack someone else's thread, instead of starting your own. Now if ppl respond and don't use the quote could be talking to you or me etc.

That's still a duct fan tho?... Will that have enough power pulling thru a filter?....

Was wondering the same thing it just looks like the regular booster fan added onto say long venting or for bends to push air. The one I'm looking at is attached.

Hi, welcome to RIU. There are many different approaches here, but im gonna guess lights on at night would be the cheapest for you, as you probably wont need a heater with two bulbs in a tent hopefully. During the day with lights off it shouldnt get too cold right? *edit sorry, just re-read your post. A speed controlled cooling fan should do you fine. As long as it doesnt get too cold with the lights off you should be fine. If it does, use some heating pads instead of a wood burner everyday.
