Hey guys, im new to the forum as of today lol i have two plants growing outside on my back deck in direct sun light. I usually water them about 2 to 3 times a day; or atleast when the soil looks like it is dry-ish. So anyways, they've been growing a couple days over a month now. One of them is about an inch tall and only has two leaves (2 more trying to grow), while the other is about an inch and half tall and is sprouting its 3rd pair of leaves (so i dont think theres any true leaves yet right?). but as i was saying, i havent added any ferts, or nutrients yet, and i was wondering if i should maybe add a low strength nutrient to it to increase growth? again, its been alittle over a month now, and i really think they should be bigger...am i correct? so, im just wondering how i can get some more leaves and some more height to feel like ive accomplished something lol im not talking about flowering but, just some better results lol also, should i add some nutrients to help them grow? any help is greatly appreciated
thanks dudes

youre roots need just as much air as they do water
reduce your watering to three times a week and you will see an improvement in growth.

Really just 3 times a week? how much water would you say exactly? i just dampin the soil...is that cool? i live in New England and summer is startin to heat up here lol like i said i leave'm in the sun all day. its been about high 80's- low 90's..but just 3 times a week?

How large are the pots you have them in? Water when the soil pulls away from the side of the pot, let the soil get dry, water until you have some runoff, wait a couple minute and then do it again. Read the grow faq top left.

the pots im using are plenty big. would hold about a gallon of water. like i said, ive just been trying to keep the soil moist and what not. the one inch one has a little yellow on the tips of the two leaves, so i was gonna cut down on watering that one, but i guess in general i needa cut down on watering. so im thinking ill just water them every 2 or 3 days. is that cool? i heard in some cases, less water makes the plants stronger? is that true? i jus dont wanna deprive them, because theyre sittin right in the sun allll day. my back deck gets pretty hot...but if cutting down watering will give me some better growth im all for it. im gonna get readin that too. any other info is appreciated. im taking notes haha

Only an inch after a month? I dont mean to come off as rude, but how old are you? You said "in class you heard"; high school? Middle school? Im just guessing by your name, and what you have said and the level of experience you seem to have. But then again i know some twenty something year olds that are trying to grow that seem to have the same level of knowledge as you.
We need more information on your set up to properly make an assessment of your situation to better help you. Like a picture or two would be great.

Yea, im pretty sure ive been over watering them severly. So im just gonna water them every couple of days if thats cool? i said " i heard in some cases" but in regards to how old i am...i jus got outta high school. forgive me if my knowledge isnt up to par like you guys...this is my first grow, and i wanted to see if i could get some nice results, and came here to get some help...

As for my set up...
i have 2 plants being grown in 1 gallon planting pots on my back deck. they get drenched in sun light. i started them about a month ago. I had about 12 seedlings; 6 of which didnt sprout, 4 others died a little later, so im left with 2. im hoping i can get atleast one female, and get some clones out if i can. as i said before, ive been watering them about 2 times a day which i recently found out is far too much which may explain why they are so small. so im gonna cut down on watering, and add some super thrive, and hope to god it does something. ill do my best to throw some picks up.

as for my name...figured id incorperate smoking pot into it. forgive me if its not as cool as everyone elses username name

Give him a break, Christ... I don't think I need anymore information to make an assessment of your situation or should we say problem. I believe the plants are receiving to much water. Water them once every two days and only if the soil is dry. Stick your smallest finger in about a cm or two and see if the soil is still moist. If it's not water it, just water the top and watch it soak down within a full second or so. You want your soil to be spongy and capable of breathing. I would try starting out in a few small pots. When you plant the seeds they should not be planted down real far. I like to put them just bellow a cm. If all goes well you should notice your plants will reach well over an inch in just week or so. Also try purchasing some Superthrive and you might be able to save your plants. Again this is my opinion and I think they are dying if not dead. Good luck!

Yea man thanks alot. that helps out big time. im gonna cut down on the watering. i checked them and noticed there was a little growth. i went to walmart and picked up some superthrive as well. im gonn try to throw some pics up tomorrow if theyre wanted to see what im workin with? lol i dont know, but thanks alot!

Smoketrees, the top of the soil should be dry before you water in all cases. I usually stick my finger into the soil to make sure its dry atleast an inch or two deep.

I'm currently in a week long process of starving my plants from water and then I start giving them plenty of water + food. Supposedly it helps the roots grow and fill up the bucket.

mrnotorious helped u out it seems.

i had the same problem as you. my seedlings didnt show any signs of over watering, but they just grew really slow. once i got on to the water every 3 day regimen they took off

my rule for feeding is that i dont give them anything till the cotytole (fat round things that are the first things up) fall off

Overwatering can cause root rot, which is worse than accidentally letting your plants wilt for a day.

Yes. Pictures ftw!

doooood, where there is moisture and heat, you have mold, your going to rot the roots! let them dry up a little bit, when you stick your finger down in the pot about an inch deep, and it feels dry, water the fuckers, if its wet let it dry out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so this is what im workin with...(i hope i uploaded these right...)

yea it seems like you just need to start a watering pattern. the pot is a little big to start them in, but it isnt that big of a deal

pretty soon they will start growing very fast...just wait and you will see
