This is my first grow so all advice and suggestions are very much welcome.

I have been reading about the hempy bucket method and it looks like a good low maintenance kinda deal for a new guy like me on a first grow.

Here's what I got goin on so far. AK48, White widow, MP5k and white rhino.
11 sprouts busted ground around 18-20 days ago.
100% straight perlite. I germed and went straight into the perlite cups when taproot was 1/2 inch.
Growth seems really slow. had em on 24/0 and when I got a timer and went to 20/4 they grew much faster. I also germed a few and then put in rockwool cubes and then placed in hempy cups and covered in perlite. These went much faster this way and the week old sprouts nearly caught up with the 2 weekers.

LIGHTS=. they are under two 40 inch flourescent shop lights about 1 inch above the plants.. I have some 100 watt CFL's that I would like to run in there with them.
NUTES=. GH 3 part The first 10 days I didn't use any nute just straight distilled water PH 6.0 or somewheres as near as I can get with the ph test liquid drop kit. after 10 days I ran the flora grow and flora micro per directions 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. not using the flora bloom yet.
They responded well to the low strength nutes and they were fed with every watering every two days.
Temp steady 71 degrees 50 % humidity.

I was reading where some using the hempy method were not using nutes with every watering. Like water, water, nutes. So I Thought I would try out this schedule. Today the cups were dry and I watered with straight distilled PH 6.0 after just a few hours all plants were droopy and most have yellowed leaves the first up from the bottom pretty bad.
Feeding every watering was working so I'll probably go back to that the plants look terrible after straight water. I'm guessing that with the 100% perlite has no nutes at all so it doesn't make much sense to use straight water?

I'm thinking it's time for a bigger pot so within a few days they are going in 5 gal. buckets.

Here's my ?'s
My room is 8ft.x 8ft 7ft. tall. I need to divide this up somehow. Would like one spot for mothers and clones under the flouro's and one side for flower. with a 600 watt HPS. would like the flower section big enough for 7-8 plants in 5 gal. buckets. not sure what would be best size for a 600 and 7-8 plants?

Right now it's not divided so the 8x8 room is sucking up the light from the flouro's. I definately need to get this taken care of soon and divide up the room and get mylar up there so I'm not wasting light.
This may be why the growth seems slow?

I'm looking for a good deal online for a 600 watt hps cooltube system and hopefully find something to order within a day or so.
the htg supply has cool tube metal halide/hps combo digital ballast and will probably get that.

pics of yellowing after watering today with straight distilled ph. 6.0 no nutes

after todays watering all went droopy and bottom leaves yellowed except for the little AK48

LOL I have the same wave cups for starting hempy. Eventually I transfer to a 3 gallon bucket. Good luck! Looks Good.:blsmoke:

sup man whats a hempy pot... whats that white shit inside that pot lol questions questions.....

hempy buckets or pots are a form of passive hydroponics. The white stuff is perlite, which is nutrient free and doesn't retain much water, but does wick it a little bit. The idea is to have a container with a hole a couple inches up the side. You pour in nutrient solution until it overflows a little bit, so you have a two inch reservoir of nutrients in the bottom of the bucket. The roots grow down into that, presto! monster plants. there's an entire thread that explains it here:

It's a great way to grow without soil and the results are pretty impressive.

I think hempy style is the way to start if you are thinking of hydro. DWC is great, but hempy buckets are much much more forgiving. Plants get big and strong fast and the entire technique prevents overwatering which is the number one newbie mistake. And, in contrast to DWC, you don't have to concentrate too much on pH and nutrient concentrations. Finally, the cash outlay for the setup is extremely low.

Try it, you'll like it!

Seems to be doing ok for my first grow. This hempy thing is pretty easy. glad I checked it out. I'm still using just the 4 ft. flouro shop lights and need to get some mylar.
I water every other day and use full strength nutes every watering.
I tried feeding every other watering and the plants didn't respond at all to plain water. I'm starting to get it figured out and they taking off this last week..
later

UKcyrus,
The plants are only 10 inches tall. I'll get some better pics up.
This is my first grow and I spent a month reading this site and others to get things figured out.
Seems like newbies like me are having all kinds of trouble when they begin in hydro or soil.
That's why I picked hempy buckets. They are super easy.
I've made some mistakes but I think it will be easy to dial this method in.
We'll see. I still got a long way to go until harvest. They could all croak tomorrow but so far they are cruisin right along.
I'm usually home for a day and then gone for two so I can water and forget about it.
getting started was cheap.
10 5 gal buckets
20 bucks worth of perlite
couple of cheap timers
nutes and cheap nirvana beans.

nice plants man thats 1 crazy method for growing too iv never heard of it before ill have to look into it seems really cheap alternative to hydro:peace:
