hempy bucket nutes need help

hey guys, im new to the site, and ive looked around for an answer to my question but i havent been able to find anything that fits.

i have 4 plants in 16oz hempy bucket cups mixed with 1\3 verm and 2\3 perlite, and thats where theyll do their full cycle.

i started off from the beginning with 12\12 and theyre about 2 weeks old.

so far all ive given them is tap water, but im completely confused as to how nutrients work. so basically what im wondering is.

what kind of nutes should i give my plants?(what should i buy)

how often should i water them with nutes?

and anything other info that might help me in keeping my ladies fresh!

appreciate any help guys! thanks!

EDIT: i also want to add that my perlite has a lot of green covering it.. i think it may be algae. will this harm my plant any? will it effect the nutes?

Search Bonemans Posts. He is a master at hempy. I can can tell you if they are 2 weeks old hempy they need food now though!

Instant...Hopefully you'll be glad you chose the hempy route. First off, do you have a hole in the side of the cup about an inch from the bottom? The way hempy works is that there is a reservior at the bottom of the container and the roots grow down there and uptake nutrients and water. Any excess drains out of the hole. You can water hempy just about everyday. I would start with a light grow nute right away, lets say 1/4 recommended dosage. I ALWAYS use cal-mag in my mix and ph everything to 5.8. It's good to throw in a few plain water feedings here and there. I grow in 100% perlite and have done a 16oz hempy grow before.

Questions? Fire away :hump:

No need to PH anything with Hempy buckets. this came from hempy himself. most nutes you buy have an added buffer to stabilize ph. I ran hempy buckets for a long time and I just poured and mixed my nutes in distilled water at 75% strength for all my plants.
All the top carriers will suffice fine pick one
fox farms
Flora Nova
GH
all good nutes(make sure you get the hydroponic nutes and not the soil)

or free method and make compost tea but get some food for them and worry about that later

You said you're running 12/12 from the beginning. From seed? Clone? You should have at least 18 hours of light during vegging. I run Bato buckets, pretty much same priciple as the hempies and I use Canna Aqua nutes. Very stable and easy to use. I tried GH, DM and others before I switched to Canna and I'm convinced and stick with them,

And the Ph of distilled water is....drumroll

LOL :joint:

Do yourself a favor and make sure you Ph your mix

General Hydroponics Maxi Series is a good choice. The Flora Series is a little mote tame for the novice.

yeah ive got a reservoir made in each cup but i havent been checking pH or anything like that. my pH might be high due to the vermiculite i mixed. ive heard it has a tendency to raise pH levels but im not positive.

my real concern right now is the fact that all my perlite is turning green!! my guess is that i have algae growth taking over.
is this going to harm my plant?
how can i fix this?

would i be able to find these nutrients at a local store like ACE hardware? or wal-mart?

yeah i was originally planning on having a vegging period for them. but i decided to let them go 12/12 from start to try to get flowering to start quick and keep my plants small. theyre growing in a small area so i figured 12/12 would be alright.

will this effect my plant and keep it from growing properly?

thanks for all the replies!

Sorry, I forgot to answer about the algae. No worries, its fine. Its just the lil beasties munching down. It wont effect your plants. If you dont like looking at it then place some hydroton or lava rocks over top.

my first use of the hempy bucket I used distilled water starting ph of 6.6 and when nutes added at around 6.2 - 6.0, let the water aerate for 24 hours and I ph it down to 5.8. through three grows, following a strict schedule of watering every two days. No problems until I got curios and measured the run off of the left over water. it measured out in the high 4's. I spoke with hempy about this same thing and referred me to his post about not phing the water do to this very thing. after I ran the next batch of water I didn't add the ph down and my runoff was 5.8 I never touched my ph meter again and no longer grow with hempys (I found my love for coco) but just out of curiosity for you and anyone else, what is the final ph after 48hrs of sitting stagnant? side note hempy created it for a super simple and cheap way to grow hydroponic and a ph meter and ph down is just an extra cost.

not trying trying to come off angry, insuting, flaming etc. but iam always open to a great debate. and sorry for the original poster for hijacking the thread a little.:bigjoint::leaf:smoke a fatty and hit me back

Thanks all....The one thing about the hempy method that pisses me off is the rebuttals and questioning of the method compared to other mediums. Everyone seems to want to argue about simple and stoopid things. Well, hempy said this and hempy said that and why dont you put airstones in the reservoir.....yada yada yada

Every situation has its different challenges and what works for one doesnt always work for the other. Everyone keeps referring back to me because I documented w/pics throughout the entire grow and had A LOT of followers. Hempy is a very successful and simple cost effective growing medium. I have found methods and ways through trial and error and continue with the success.

I also documented a CoCo grow which was also very very productive but it came with its own seperate challenges. My Hempy grows are 100% perlite and are still my preferred growing medium.

Ph to 5.8, Water/Feed when the rez gets low, dont worry about the algae on top, always always always use cal-mag (I do 4-5 ml per gal of water) with every grow regardless of medium.

Enjoy and watch how fast they grow in those lil white soft rocks.

alright, so i think im gonna go with the 3 pack fox farm nutes and try to follow the hydro feeding schedule theyve got on their site.

but now that raises some new questions..

since im running 12/12 from start, should i still use the grow big solution as stated?

also, the schedule calls for a reservoir change every couple weeks. what exactly does this mean?

thanks again for all the quick replies!

12/12 from seed is just fine. the plant will mature no faster, but instead of seeing preflowers first, you'll just see it start flowering. If overall size is an issue, 12/12 from seed can save you from the few extra days of vegetative growth that it would take you to identify the preflowers.

Question:

Larger yields from the 3:1 Perl/Verm mix, or from the 100% perlite?

I'm guessing the 100% perlite would return the greatest yield do to the more frequent feedings.

I get about the same yield regardless of what method I use. I'm sure one does better than the other but not enough to notice. I just keep everything simple and let it grow :) :leaf:

went ahead and went with the general hydroponics line. i got the micro and bloom to do the lucas formula and i just fed them for the first time yesterday

all the bottom leaves are yellowed out and drooping bad. so im hoping with this, the rest of the plant wont end up the same.. hoping i dont get nute burn either, but i guess ill see soon
