Hey all, I was given two babies to raise and frankly they've been dying because i over watered them and they were without light for a week and they are only in veg stage but I'm on the road to recovery, I'm aware of how much i should feed them now and they (two) are under a 400w HPS bulb now.
Here's my question; The pots are small. Too small, tomorrow I will go and buy bigger pots. I will also buy Perlite and based on advice from an experienced man in the field he advised to cut the bottom off the existing pots and place them into a perlite filled pot and procedd as one would when using hempy bucket. Now I'm up for this but I'm not 100% convinced it will work and think maybe I should place one into soil to maintain and see. So in anyones opinion, is there any reason why the hempy bucket idea won't work? or should i go soil? or do you think perlite is the way to go?

P.S i'm aware vermiculite is actually a "standard" part of hempy bucket but I've done my research, it seems people can use perlite solo and get away with it quite well?

I have grown and currently grown in hempy buckets. You can't really overwater in them. I start in rockwool and Solo cups, when it ready for the the larger pot cut off the bottom and burry it 1/2-3/4 of the way onto the larger bucket. I do use 4-1 perlite/vermiculite mix. Good luck, you should do just fine.

also, should i just cut te very bottom off? seems kind of a waste really, should I slice the whole thing open so the roots can go where they please?

pots, yes, just off the bottom 1/4" or so. Don't worry about the roots finding their way around, they know how to do their job. After you do your first harvest and clean up the bucket, I suspect that you will be surprised at what is in there.
