I'm on my first grow but I'm using hydroponics. One problem that I had early on was ph issues (i didn't have a ph meter, but the drop method with the vial). When I got me a ph meter those problems disappeared. I'm not saying it is your ph but if the ph is off then it could make it look more like a nutrients problem. Push comes to shove, flush that soil out and then start the appropriate feeding regimen with correctly ph'd water for soil. I haven't studied soil growing nearly as much as I have hydro but this is just my two cents.
