help

I'm going to begin my first grow, I'm working with a closet that is 3feetby3feet, height is not a problem. I have one 150w hps light, few small fans, one for the light, one for the plant, and one to move air around. I heard opening the door once or twice a day would be enough to vent the air in and out. Going to be using Fox Farm soil+nutes. Trying to be basic as possible without going overboard with it. ( not that there is anything wrong with that ) Since this is my first grow and the closet doesn't seem big enough for many plants I'm going to try to grow one plant with this set up and see how she turns out. My question is, what should/could i do to know that i have a female plant and not waste a lot of time hopeing its a female? My idea would be to get some dixie cups or jiffy pots and plant about 10seeds or so ( one for each pot/cup ) and just transplant it, but it is possible to tell if one of those 10 are a female before i would have to transplant them into something bigger?
Any feedback would be much appreciated and feel free to treat me like a newbie. I've done a lot of reading and I've got everything set up to start.

uhm... in a matter of speaking NO! you wont know for ~ 6-8 weeks depending on the strain maybe a lil longer.. by that time unless they are auto flower they will be ~2 ft tall. You should think about getting feminized seeds if you wanna garuntee some smoke even if they hermie on ya that can be fixed or go with autos done in 9 weeks and preflower at 2-3 weeks.

you need to get feminized seeds, it will take to long to see if they are male or female and they wont fit in the smaller pots anymore

Lower temperature increases the number of females, as well as high humidity. More blue light increases the number of female plants and red increases males. fewer hours of daylight for example about 14 increase the chances of females. Lastly stress, the more stress the more chance of a male.
