I'm getting a 4" inline fan, this one to be exact

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sub-Zero-4-inch...emZ200542089018QQcategoryZ43555QQcmdZViewItem

and i need to know what size duct tubing am i supposed to get? and what are the odds of my local lowes/home depot carrying that size? also, does it matter if i dont one of those cooling tubes that vent through your hood? i have a 400 watt hps by htg supply with jut a normal aluminum case.. just trying to get this ventilation shit all figured out.

thanks in advance[

a 4 inch fan will need 4 inch duct, use the alumized dryer venting, its very flexible and cheap, last longer than the same thing in plasting.

you can use a reducer and go down to 3 inch duct, but itll make your exhuast point more noticable, itll also cuase more backpreassure on the motors thrust bearings

well it's a growtent so i need something thats flexible so that should work.. just get 4" then i guess a couple feet 10 or so? do i just use duct tape to seal everything? or would hose clamps be more appropriate?

I like hose clamps but i guess its up to your preference FYI my Clamp has fell of once but i re tightened and everything is running smooth

ok so i made a pic of how i think it should go. but how will the fan support itself on top of the filter? do i hang it? or is there a better way? i then want to run the air out of the tent using the hosing

Ventilation. The biggest thing about ventilation is keeping equal or slightly more positive atmosphreric pressure as outside. To many people seal up their room and attach an exhaust blower then wonder why there plants don't look so good. One of the reasons I mentioned in other threads, to make sure your venting goes completely outside the house is because once I was confronted by a landlord asking me why all of his new cedar shingles are black. Excess moistures gathering in the wrong parts of the house can cause problems. If you used a cool tube or a sealed bonnet you could vent the majority of heat without an odour problem.

so your saying it bad to vent the air right out of the tent into the room?? i had no idea. smell does not matter i'd prefer to keep the air inside. i can do something i suppose to try to put a vent in one of the little ass basement windows i suppose if its really necessary

Of course if you only have a few houseplants I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. If you beleive the humidity is too high you'll have to correct it. If I was to operate a mini system with a 400w light it would not be as big of a concern as 1000/w or more. If your room is big enough to enter into, the air should be fresh and pleasant to breath.

If you vent the hot air directly outside the tent then it will be drawn back into the tent and re-heated. You will have heat issues.

You are going to need a way to get fresh cool air to the tent to help with temp issues.

luckily the basement is very cool, especially this time of year. maybe in the summer i'll need an upgrade, but for now, this will be fine i hope. the ballast will also be outside the tent, as far as possible, as to decrease heat. if i were to need to bring in fresh air, what would i do? just suck air in from another part of the room? (its all cool)

put duct tape around your 4" flex duct then put the 4" clamp around it. I had my flex duct tearing from where my clamps were tightened down until i put duct tape around it and that stopped the tearing of my flex duct
