Help with closet grow box please!

So i have decided to start my grow closet and i am asking for some help since i have never done this before. I have decided a setup like this is what im going for. its a 4 foot tall by 4 foot wide by 2 feet deep cabinet type thing i am going to make with some 2' by 4' plywood. I am going for the Jethro's stealth box idea but ive decided to do it in something like this instead. I wanted to have fans on the bottom of the box sucking air in while having 1 fan towards the top of the box sucking air out. Of course with multiple fans inside to circulate the air. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with selecting the right light setup because i dont know which type of setup i should go for. Any help and any tips on a better plan or setup would be much appreciated.

Oh yeah i know my pictures suck horribly bad but its just a rough draft basically to get an idea of what im going for.

im trying basicly the same idea, i plan to pick up the wood from home depot tommorow and start getting it done... i have dont alittle research so i know what im gonna do for the most part.... if u had more specific questions i could help u more... basicly for ur size box i would either get some cfl's ( depending on how many plants u grow) or you could go with an hid system.. it will be better light but it will also be hotter... if u want one of those i suggest making a seperate ventalation system for your light encloseing it in glass with an intake and an outtake fan on each side to keep ur growbox from overheating/lighting on fire  for me i plan on going with cfls... there cooler then hids( argue with me if u like) and theyre generally cheaper/cheaper to opperate and i might pick up some leds as extra grow lights .... if u have anymore questions post them up or pm me if u like... reguards to soil/ventalation/nutes/design/lights or anything else that a grow would require

yeah well i was thiking of going with CFL's as well. I would go with HIDs but i am afraid i would not be able to keep it cool enough with just one vent sucking the air out so i was planning on going with CFL's.. So my question is would like 6 - 8 40 watt or so CFLs be good for this small of a space or is that too much? Yeah i was going to do soil based as well i wasnt going to get into that until i got my lighting setup figured out and what not.. I wanted to build some light fixture i could move up and down inside to keep it with the distance of the plant while growing. i was planning on just getting 2 clones and have them veg till they are ready to flower and just change the light cycle when the time is right. what do you think?

bet you could go 1000w hps(overkill by tons for sure) -really go 250-400w hps with 1 or two stanley fans for 39.99 @ walmart blowing in air and sucking out the heat. They are rated at 2200 cfm each so one would most likely do the trick

1000w would definately be more than im looking into getting for now. i was thinking i want to have around 500 watts or so so if i were to go with 2 250 watt would that be good? i just want to know if having lets say 2 250 watt lights be better than having lets say like 4 or 5 100 watt lights?

2200 cfm might suck the plants right out of a 32 cf cabinet...

If you plan on using multiple fans, use all of them for exhaust. Just have a hole for intake 1 to 1.5 times the size of the exhaust port. Your exhaust fans will pull in almost an equal amount of air into the cabinet as they push out.

good luck

So the best fan set up would be one exhaust port that sucks all the air out and have one intake thats bigger than the exhaust? or could i just have 2 intakes the same size as the 1 exhaust?

depends on how you want your air to flow. I prefer my fresh air come from the bottom on one side, sweep across and upward towards the exhaust. I place my exhaust fan in an upper corner, and my intake opening in the opposite lower corner.

I also prefer my intake opening the same size as the exhaust opening. This creates a lower air pressure in the cabinet than in the surrounding rooms and helps keep the odors from leaking through small cracks and holes.

ok i see what your saying now.... yes i was going to have the fresh air come from the bottom and have it sucked out toward the top. i was going to have 2 intakes but if your saying one intake works with just a fan sucking out the air on top then that sounds like an easier way to do it so ill stick to that definately.

stanley fan has 3 settings 1200cfm 1800cfm and 2300 cfm all roughly

I was suggesting that it was mainly for exhaust purposes and not to blow on the leaves because that would rip them from their roots. Regardless, should fix any heat problems.

-pot ..... drunk ( i love college)

Ok so i have assembled the box now. it is exactly 4' x 4' x 1'9". It looks WAY bigger than i expected it to be which is a good thing... as for the lights im thinking about getting 2 250 watt HPS lights and place them side by side with the ability to raise and lower them. Would 2 250 watt HPS lights be too hot for this small of an area though? I have researched and people recommend keeping 250 watt HPS lights about 3 feet away from the plant so is this true or if i had cool tubes would i be able to bring it closer because if i had to keep it 3 feet from the plant that only gives me 1' of growing so what should i do if HID lights arent going to work for this small of a space?

Why dont you put 1 250 metal halide and one 250 hps, youll have a full spectrum, thats what im going to do with my grow box, but since mine is way smalle im going to do it with 70 hps and one 70 mh
