Help with 2 x HLG 550 V2 - Burning/Bleaching

I'm not having much fun learning how to grow, I think I bleached my plants with my new HLG 550V2. I'm running two of these bad boys with a secret jardin dr240w tent (120cm*240cm*200)

Not only was my EC meter reading under by 0.2 (So I nute burned them, now I've blasted them with too much light)

I did buy a PAR meter to avoid doing this and spent some time reading and someone told me to keep the PAR under 500 in veg. I made sure the PAR at the top of the plants was around 450 but I think I bleached them.

I have placed the lights as high as possible in the tent keeping a good 4 feet distance

Anyway, I've dimmed the lights down to the PAR is around 329.

Do you guys think this will be OK? I'm going to flip them soon, so worried about them getting taller and them getting blasted again as they get taller.

When they're in flower can they handle more? Or will I need to dim them further to avoid burning/bleaching?

Thanks for any feedback, I'm still learning.

Justin.

They need cal mag from what I can see.

OK. So it's not burn / bleaching from the lights? It's cal-mag issue? Shall I increase the EC of cal-mag to 0.5 for my base mixture?

I'm using soft water nutes, so expected them to have extra cal-mag in them as well.

I thought i had bleaching on the tops also, and as others suggested, upped my calmag to 4ml per gal and they instantly went green. my tap water is 44ppm, run 900-950ppfd so its not your lights

maybe increase slowly to be safe, but it sure helped mine....anyways goodluck (im not sure if thats your prob, but i thought id chime in)

Soft water like it goes through a water softener? If so theres no calcium in there. My well water is hard at 200 ppm

I veg with 800ppfd without any problems It's not the light

i also find 4ml per gallon is the min calmag needed for my lights and coco.

Wow? I didn't think 200ppm is hard? My well water is around 600ppm and my plants don't do well on it all, even diluted with RO. That's why I use plain RO.

Hesi produces nutes for both soft and hard water. I always ordered the soft water nutes as I'm using RO water with cal-mag as the base. I was under the impression soft water nutes had extra cal-mag as they were aimed at low ppm tap water.

Thanks guys, my tanks are huge, I think around 1000L. I guess I'm going to have to do some maths and work out their exact volume of fluid in them and then make sure I'm adding 4-5ml per L.

I was using "bro-science" and just assumed that bringing RO water to an EC of 0.5 (250ppm(500) TDS) would be enough as a base. I was worried about adding too much cal-mag. Can you add too much cal-mag? Will that give nute-burn?

Nah soft water is water that's had an ion exchange through resin tanks. It exchanges calcium ions for salt ions. Hard water is any water with calcium or iron or whatever. It just depends on how hard your water is. 600 ppm is high though.

I have the same lights, 35 inches above the canopy. This is def a nute deficiency, and ill agree with cal mag. I had some do the same, and I epsom salted them with 1tbsp a gallon, and they recovered nice and green. And I would say you could drop those down a bit, unless your temps are too high.

Looks like a deficiency to me too

Agreed.
Plants are showing some deficiency-looks a bit hungry.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies, it's really appreciated. I worked out the amount of RO water in my tanks. I fill them half full, so after measuring the height of the water and radius, the total volume of RO water is 137 gallons. Going at 5ml / gallon, I added 685ml of cal-mag to the Ro water. It left me with an EC rating of 0.5. Before I had been filling to 0.4 EC with cal-mag as a base. So we'll see what an extra 0.1 EC does. Is 0.1EC quite a lot of cal-mag to be low on?

I then added 0.2 EC of my hesi grow nutes - to take the total EC to 0.7. Do you guys think that shall be OK? Shall I leave it there for a week or so, and then maybe look to increase EC to 0.8 (0.5 cal-mag + 0.3 hesi nutes) I'm just worried about nute-burn/frying them.

Do you think this deficiency is from lack low cal-mag, or could this be lack of the hesi grow nutes? Sorry for the questions I'm still new to this and learning. I'm also running a drain to waste system and watering the rockwool cubes (big mama) twice a day, 30 seconds before lights out and 30 seconds after lights on.

Dude, I'm running 2 x 36,000 BTU split aircon and C02 (1000ppm) so keeping the canopy temp around 26 and RH at 75 to keep VPD as perfect as possible. I've also lowered the lights again and PAR is now back to 500.

I guess leave it a week and hope for improvement.

Here's a picture of my baby's, they only look sick close up. They're only a month old from putting the seed in the ground, the rate of growth has been amazing - I just wish I can get my nutes dialed in properly.
