Help Wiring this Cool Tube (w/ pics)

Found a dude on CL selling used cool tubes, got it for $15 but I need to wire it. Guy had 83 tubes, all pushing 1000w, huge op, but one of the partners ran off with 3 mil from last harvest :-( and he's selling everything.

Anyway...how do I hook this up to the cord from my old socket? Don't know anything about wires but with detailed instructions and one day being sober, i'm sure i can do it.

its just white to white and black to black, green to green or not if your cord isnt grounded but it should be

aye.

remove the wirenuts (round orange things) (righty tighty lefty loosey)

no. the splice does not "need" to be enclosed. you can zip tie it to the mounti8ng chain. just keep tension off the splice.

and as mentioned above white to white black to black, doesnt really matter with a lightbulb but do it anyway.

splice enclosed? zip tie to mounting chain? sounds like goiuj asadl skaljdaf to me. lol

i thought i was supposed to cut the black cord from the socket on the old reflector and connect those wires to the cool tube.

well i cant really tell where everything is from those pics
but i got yo back.

a spice is when any 2 (or more) seperate wires are brought together to form an electrical circuit/connection.

your going to need those two wire nuts anyway, so unscrew them off their wires and save them.

yes you can cut the cord. just cut away the outher casing to expose the inner wires (should be 3 blk wht grn) use a sharp knife or razor blade or youll hurt yourself

Get skype and I will show you.. or just attatch the colors, are you connecting a ballast? this is all important.

The ground wire attaches to the metal on the cool tube. Run the light wire from your hid and attach the white wire to the white wire and the black wire to the black wire and the ground wire to the metal on the cool tube. The white wire should lead to the outside screw section of the socket and the black wire should lead to the center electrode of the socket. I can only assume that from your pic the intention is to twist and marret your wires together inside the electrical box that came with the cool tube. The ground wire can be secured inside to this box as well. Hook the fan into the light relay so it will come on and go off with the light.

I am not connecting directly to the ballast, the cord plugs into it. The second pic shows the end of the cord. I think I got the idea. Cut cord from old reflector. Connect white to white, black to black, put on wire nut. Wrap green wire to a screw on the metal part of the cool tube socket. Plug in and hope to not cause a fire. The end.

Is that right? I don't have a blade and my vaporizer seduced me so I will do this in the morning. Should I just pick up some wire cutters to make it easier? I think I saw some at the dollar store.

for $15 you should buy a few of them, you know? I wouldnt mind buying one!! PM me with the info.. i got shipping too! of course

you got it right you can burn the plastic coating off if need be

no you cant, well that is no dont do that, 1st itll coat the connection end in a veriety of carbon compounds that dont conduct very well.
then theres the heat stress to the copper itself which will reduce electron transfer on the wire surface. also drematicly increases the odds of arcfailure.

Yeah man, I'm thinking about looking into becoming an electrician. This stuff is a piece of cake ;-)

you should, its good work, pays good, no heavy lifting.
and the tooling investment isnt that bad for a journeyman. small voltage tester, hammer, wire strippers, boxknife, bent needlenose pliers, linemans cutters, wire cutters ,9 or 13 in one screwdriver.

on the tools if you buy cheap they do wear out faster, it doesnt matter for the guy that does 1-2 jobs a year. but for regular duty they need to be replaced yearly or more
klien makes good tools, expensive but good.
