Help! Premature flowering!

Hey all... I've got about 13 or so Early Mistys outdoors, most of which are about 1 1/2 feet tall. I started them indoors under 24 hour light, which I think was my mistake- should have gone with 18/6, as now they have started flowering 3 weeks before the summer solstice! Is there anything I can do to reverse this? I'm thinking about topping them all to remove the main flower and the flowering hormone at that site and what not, but I'm not sure if this will help or not. Please advise!! Thanks

24/0 would have no effect, if anything it would flower sooner after being under 18/6. Sorry if its flowering outside there isnt anything you can do about it, cant control the time the sun is on, and thats all that triggers flowering. What is wrong with it starting to flower early, to small?

Crap... yeah, they're too small. I wanted some 6 or 7' plants, not 18". I just don't understand why it's happening... not like it's an autoflowering variety... argh.

sorry dude.hey if your summer is still starting and the days are long then the plant should revert it by themselves.if not then you cant do anything.

That's what I'm hoping, but I hate to lose the veg time while they are reverting, especially since it's an early variety anyway and the veg time is shortened by that factor.... ugh. Well, I've enclosed a pic, let's make sure I'm not panicking over nothing, though I'm pretty sure at this point in my career I know what an early flower looks like. Take a look:

Man that's a bummer. The plant in that pic looks good though. Could be worse man!

If she's Sativa heavy like she looks like, she should revert back before the buds start getting any size to them. I have a Thai girl out in the yard that just finished doing this. It kept making one set of pistols per new node and so on for weeks until it stopped having open pistols at all, just closed preflowers on the new growth.

How long does your strain take to show flowers under artificial lighting anyway? The Sativa I'm using is completely unaltered so the flowering time is super long and this might be the difference between you and I. The Indicas that I put outside early didn't revert back and are still swelling though. Afghan doesn't get big anyway even if given the time and space. >_>

Just leave it outside and it will go back into veg.

I done exactly as you did with my bonsai, 24-0 to 14/10 (and rising with the summer comming in). It's starting to go back after 3 weeks, and has already given me 3 good cuttings.

ya i put 2 of my clones out to early and they have buds on em now lol at 24 inches tall... your fine thats just showing sex with pre flowers. i put 4 more clones out hopeing to reach the 7-9 ft range myself! good luck with your grow im almost certian it will continue through vegging

Hey, thanks all, very encouraging... they are pretty heavily Indicas, actually. New strain to me, but the one I grew inside was done 8 weeks to the day from 12/12... it is an "early" variety, which makes me wonder if it will go back or not... of course, the Diesel, White Widow and Master Kush that I have outside (had extras lying around) all are doing the same thing... maybe I've just never noticed it before. I guess time will tell... should have a better idea by the Solstice I suppose!

ive heard of a technique where if you want to prevent budding to flash the plants with a flashlight during the middle of the night and the plant will eventually revert back to veg

No you will need consistent light during the night, just flashing them with a flashlight will cause them to herm while flowering and things will be even worse.:joint:

This is done with Christmas lights and they are on long enough for it to stay out of 12/12. They give off just enough light for the plant to stay in veg.

I've actually been doing this, as per advice in Mel Frank's "Marijuana Grower's Insider's Guide", pg. 68. There is so much contradictory info out there, it's really hard to know who to trust, and I realize that this book is somewhat outdated, but I still trust that Mr. Frank, of all people, will not lead me wrong. At least, I hope not. :D

How long are flashing them? This just seems like bad advise especially from a book. Seem like you are only going to interrupt enough to stress the plant. How long have you been doing this?

Just for a few seconds, and only two nights now. I understand the fear of hermaphraditism, but Mel's book (aka "The Marijuana Bible") has yet to lead me astray. He's worked closely with Ed Rosenthal and is incredibly scientific in his approach.

And yet, I am a bit wary of this piece of advice, as well. Like I said, the book was last updated in the late 80's, and a lot has changed since then. Absolutely no offense meant to you, smppro, as you've been incredibly helpful in your own right, yet I'd love to hear some first hand experience, such as "I tried this and it hermaphrodited my plants"... there's a lot of second-hand advice going around on this (and every other!) site, which doesn't necessarily make it untrue, but makes it somewhat less reliable.

Does this make sense? I'm trying not to make any enemies here, I'm just trying to do the right thing for my plants, and right now I'm kinda freaking out because they haven't grown but an inch or two in the two weeks since I transplanted them, and I'm trying to do whatever I can to reverse this...
