I got a 250 watt HPS/MH "Grow Light" Air Cool 250w. When i put a MH bulb in it turns on for a few seconds than turns right off. Any ideas why this would happen? Think the light is faulty? I also tried the HPS light that came with it and thats not turning on at all.

Are you sure it's a 250 watt bulb? Is there a switch over thing to switch between the types of lights?

Start looking at those two things and post again.

If you have a fan on it, turn it off and allow the bulb/ballast to heat up. I have my fan staggered to turn on 5 min after my light or it takes a few tries to turn on.

sounds like too much power draw, did you try plugging only the light in (no fans, blowers, etc) my buddies room would do the same thing his 1000W would cause his two 400W to do exactly what you are saying...he offset the timers 10 minutes and hasn't had a problem since...

I plugged just the light in to the outlet and its doing the same thing. So you think my outlet cant handle the 250w light?

Yeah, if not what I said before then you're probably looking at not enough wattage capability to whatever you're plugging it into.

You'd think your wall could support that, you may need to get some type of surge protector or something instead of plugging straight in.

I had my ground wire come loose from my hood a couple years ago,it would fire then go right back off, maybe run 5 to 10 seconds. My ground was loose from the factory,it was a new reflecter

Its the light. I just went down to basement and light was on. Touched the plug that goes into light fixture and it turned right off. Damn my luck.....

Look at your hood it has a little green wire ,it should be attached to something metal on your hood, mine had simply come loose and needed to fastened back.Go check all your wires going into your reflecter, one of them is loose and easy to fix
