Help Needed!

Hi guys,

Need some help. Having problems controlling temperatures in my tent as I just switched on my dual spectrum HPS. I didn't have the funds for multiple bulbs so had to go for that apart from I used a 125w cfl. Still seedlings but the school of thought I have read seems to be more lumens more growth so I made the switch. I have the HPS 2 ft above and this seems to be ok except for when I close the tent.

My Equipment is:

Secret Jardin tent - 90cm x 90cm x 180cm
400w HPS
Ruck 100mm Can-Fan with Carbon filter extraction

I was closely monitoring the temperatures as I know HPS can cause a huge rise and if I close the door it drastically increases to say 31 - 35c. This is with the fan going. It would appear that I need to buy another fan that actually has a bit more pulling power but the fan should pull 230m3/hour. I can keep the door open till they start smelling and then I am pretty screwed. I keep it in a cupboard in my bedroom with ceilings around 12ft high. Temperature in my room is at 18c. Low i know but it's cold this time of year and I thought this would help things inside the tent.

I was thinking of buying a used a/c unit and blowing that through one of the side vents. As this would come in slightly cheaper. Anyone got any more ideas? Remember I am on a budget as well so if we can try work between the £100 - £150 mark that would be great.

Thanks for your help. If you need any more information from me to make a judgement let me know!

well a 100 mm might be on the small side, but instead of investing in a bigger one right away, I would spend the money on a cool tube/hood, will make it drop +5 I promise ..

I have 21-22c in my spare bed room, and inside the grow room located in there I had +30C before I got a cool hood, now I can keep it under 26C and keep it much closer to the plants aswell, about 30cm instead of 40-50cm as before ..

sumthing like this

cool hood, cost a bit more then the cool tube, but spread the light much better, try google it

EDIT: may add that I run a 600W HPS with a 150mm vent

dunno how clear that is to you, it a DIY hood I made, filter is off in Veg. as they dont smell ..

Ace man that was actually one thing i was looking at but do I need another fan for that to be effective? 5c? that would exactly what I needed!

Also how would that get put into my system. carbon filter - cool hood - fan - exhaust?

Thanks man

look at what I just added to my fist post, but no, no new ventilation needed, just some Alu tubbing to connect the filter to the cool hood and cool hood to the vent.

Ace Slipon, thanks! Really appreciate that. That's gonna be a definite buy. Another quick question mate. Your setup looks slightly bigger but we've got very similar size carbon filters (mine is smaller but not much). Does that do the job for keeping the smell down? Again really appreciate your response

yea, it remove my smell in less then two hours, impressive how effective they are, and size don't matter, so much here, it is how much the filter can take, need to be the same or more as the ventilation, or it wont run optimal and can even let smell out I have been told ?

Yeah well I bought the fan, the tent and the filter as a set. So they should be optimal for each other. Saying that though I did ask if the fan was good enough for a 400w light and was given many assurances that in a tent that size it would be fine... bull shit though. So fingers crossed about the filter. Again cheers for your help!

nahh you want one of them, tube is cheapest, hood spread the light out more ..

I would go for a hood, one of the 3 bottom once that cost between 69 and 79 pounds ..

and then some Alu ducting to fit (150mm) and some to fasten them, maybe want to get some Alu tape now your at it .. can always come in handy making it all air tight ..

idea is that you pull the air through the cool hood/tube, that both cool the bulb down a lot and ventilate out the hot air, beside that you also have a pice of glass between your bulb and plants, both things will lower your room temps a lot ..

new issues, could be, that you then reuse, so to speak the "old" air/co2 inside your room where your tent is located (but I guess you allready do that)

and temps raise over night (I say night Bc. I run mine at night, as it fit me better and it's colder at night)

I use another pice of Alu tube (got 10 meters for 25€)

to "collect" fresh/cold air from my hallway to my passiv intake, to avoid temps raise to much over night and to provide my plants with fresh air/co2 (I can keep it a bit cooler in my hallway and keep a small ventilation opening over my door open)

p.s. sorry for all the typos and bad gramma, its late, Im stoned and off to bed, night ..

Haha Slipon, no need to apologise you have been very helpful thanks. Definitely going to get this asap. Anything the lowers my temps by 5c is exactly what i need. I will take everything you've said into consideration. Thanks for all your help very much appreciated :D
