Hey guys, first post on here and never grew before in my life but im about to start it up! ive been doin a lil research but i still dont know as much as i want to before i start to invest in it so i was hoping somebody could help me out! i live in an apartment so obviously settin up a grow room is outta the question, so i have been looking into this pc stealth box from www.mrgrowpro.net , pretty sure i wanna go with the hydroponics but i had ALOT Of questions, first off how do you start the seeds? ive heard of the mediums they use like rockwood and stuff but was hoping somebody could give me a lil more detail on it and what exactly i have to do.. maybe give me a list or something of everything i need to get before i start,. ive been lookin at nirvana for some seeds that would go good in it ( so many choices that i want
biggrin.png
any advice on a strand good for smaller areas, probably a white strain.? ) there will definantly be more questions but this should do it for now, the rest ill have to ask after i start and when they start growin! hope someone helps me out :)

You should look into investing in the indoor/outdoor medical growers Bible by Jorge Cervantes. Its basically a tell all book about growing Perfect for beginners, first time growers, and master growers alike! There is not a question to date that I have about growing that the answer to isn't in this book it covers everything from germination to harvest. Goes into great detail different aspect of indoor as well as outdoor growing. And everything in between including fertilizer use and indoor/outdoor pest control. As well as alot of delicious close up and whole plant pictures :)

Since you're just starting, IMO you would have better luck going with soil for your first couple grows.
Cheaper, less maintenance and more forgiving.
Use bagseed for the first couple tries in case they don't make it, and don't expect monster plants, that way you won't be disappointed in case it doesn't turn out to be a huge plant.
Read all you can, even if it's not printed literature.
Just following somebody's grow that is using similar things to what you have can be very helpful.;-)

not to argue with you Bak...as many people say the same that dirt is best for a rookie, but I beg to differ...I truly believe that hempy is the most idiot proof way to grow....no over-watering issues (and we all know how noobs like to water 3 times a days)... and you can flush out quickly if you have gone over board with nutes......there isn't much more. If they use a simple Lucas formula and maybe a bit of Cal-Mag.....there isn't much more to go wrong... IMHO

That's true bro, I didn't think to throw in there about the common overwatering issue.
All good points you had there.
I can't argue with you either.

so what exactly will i need? ( what kinda nutes ect. )and reason im starting with hydro is cause in the case im getting it comes set up as hydro or for soil but you can always grow soil in the hydro version so why not right? try em both out :)

bro i just looked at that "pc box"..which model are you looking to buy? I could build you a better one of those less then what that guy is charging! I'd highly suggest building your own at those costs. 400 bucks you can make a much better PC setup with a stronger 90w led panel instead of 45w and still spend less..

as far as nutes goes, id highly recommend going with blueplanetnutrients.com you can get a 3 part system and a bloom booster for about 41 bucks which includes the shipping. AND you will get it extremely fast. Its formulated with MJ growing in mind and works in all systems from soil to hydro

This is true...I'm a noob too but I'm Ffarms all the way. Just started a new nute, Earth juice bloom...hoping it does good with my Snowstorm for dense nugs...soil grow is all I really know ;)

My biggest advice for total noobs is when watering, give a DRINK OF WATER...You wouldn't throw a whole glass on yourself to drink it so don't get stupid with it. Plants can't grab a towel ;)

Common misconception though........
"Watering too much" should actually be called or referred to as "Watering too often".
When you water, you want to water until you get runoff, not just enough to change the color of the top of the soil.
If you continue to water shallow, (or just some or little bit), you will end up with a big compressed rootball at the top of the pot wherever you have been watering.
When you soak the whole pot, from center to edge, and top to bottom, then let it dry out between waterings, that is when the rootball will expand, as it is trying to search for water in the dry soil.
If you constantly water just a little every day or every other day right at the stalk, then the roots will not grow out, having all they want right where they are.
I always water until AFTER I have runoff, especially if it is not one of my feed days.

Thanks for being so thorough and explaining like this. While I do give "drinks" about every week I put each girl in the shower and soak them too runoff and spray the tops too as long as they aren't flowering. Is this okay, or should I do it differently?

That sounds fine, but like you say, 'as long as they're not flowering'.
When they are flowering and you spray, or constant high RH like we have, you have much more chance of fungus.
What you're doing sounds fine, but again, I like to get runoff EVERY time, and I don't like to let them dry to the point of wilting, I hear that makes it much easier for salt buildup to occur.

Well i ordered 5 feminized blackberry and 5 feminized bubbleicious from nirvanaseeds.com, went ahead and ordered the growers bible as well and 45 rockwool 1.5 X 1.5 inch cubes, the kit comes with clay pebbles and the lil pot cup things for the medium. now i jus need more advice on the nutrients which ones i should get?

Everybody is gonna tell you their 'favorite'.
There are so many opinions on 'best', but IMO there is no one "best" for EVERY circumstance.
You just gotta do some reading, make an educated guess from what you see working well in similar conditions to what you have and go for it.
If you don't like it, try something else next grow.

I would suggest you get all your equipment first and do it right the first time. I hate hearing from people around town that they started growing weed then you see the setup and its 4 or 5 three inch sprouts in a single Dixie cup sitting in a tin foil lined vertical shoe box on their bathroom counter, or using their computer monitor as a light source.

So i started out with soil and I think its a good way to go. But that is because i like to keep my moms in soil. Im attemting to start a hempy perpetual myself, and can share at least what ive come up with as a decent starter setup

I have a 2x4 growing area under my lights, and i am height restricted so i am using smaller containers. I got 8 5 quart paint pails from home depot at 2.50 a piece. To this, i added 2 cement mixing tubs that are 33x24. I am going to set these on top of milk crates and i have drilled a small hole in one end of them. When i water or flush my hempys the waste will be caught in the bins, and drain to a pail under the hole. The cement mixing tubs are 13 bucks each. I also got heavy duty all weather black duct tape for about 5 bucks to tape up the outside of the pails because they were a bit translucent for my liking. I put the drainage whole about 2 inches up, which give me about a half gallon (7-9 cups about) res. I used screen repair kits (7 screens for 2 bucks) and i cemented them over the outside of the holes with silicon, which i had from just replacing my sink i forget how much it costs. Overall the setup was just under 60 bucks. Then another 40 for media (perlite 2cft @18, vermiculite 2cft @22)

100 bucks and im set to grow for many many cycles to come
