scale 1-10 (first grow) how horrible is this?

plant 1 - hasnt grown at all , not many roots in the bottom. will transplant anywayz

plant 2 is wilting leaves

plant 3 is the healthiest, lanky, but now leaves are pointing upward

plant 4 upward pointing leaves, and one is even TWISTING!

plant 5 short and stocky, recently fell over, (so much for stocky)

All stopped growing, some have roots sprouts coming out of the bottom and sides

repotting tomorrow?

MH light is scorching the crap outta the grow medium.... dry as a bone within hours... i know a little dry is ok... but this? excessive drought?

Im setting up a fluoro system tomorrow morning with 4 split sockets, 8 bulbs, 4 blue spectrum 60 watters, 4 mixed reds and whites... im going to lay off the MH for now... its seeming to do way more harm than good...

sigh... at least now when i look back at this... i have a better idea of what to do ... its all a learning process aint it :/

ps, in the pic i put them back under the 13w grow fluorescent for now.... them seemed to do VERY well under this lamp strangely... just a temporary til i get the nice fluoro set in there

woah, dude! those are some stretchy plants! seedlings can't take the HID lights very well as they don't require much light. if the HID gets too close, it burns them (as you've seen). if it's too far away, they stretch (as you've seen). better off to use some lower intensity CFL's or regular fluorescents and keep them close for the first week or so after breaking ground. after that, you can switch to your metal halide and keep it about 3 feet away, lowering it 6-8 inches a day until you are about 12-18 inches from the tops of your plants.

good luck on your grow!

:peace:

thanks. I have 4 blue spectrum 5000k's and some mixed red and white spectrums. 8 total bulbs coming tomorrow.

Enough lights? Can I Repot? Can I water once a day?

Thanks

put the lights closer what makes them stretch is the length it is away from the light. you want it close so it doesnt grow lanky...

ok, so a few modifications, a trip to home depot, an hour of sweat

and bestly, a survived night...

The plants took a huge liking to the 13w fluoro overnight. Right now, i juiced them up with a nice little mixture of cools and warms.... this should do the trick...

transplanted them into a nice bigger environment with more root space.... (the roots were going crazy in the tiny little peat). They have been watered with 1/4 strength nutes

two of them just developed their first set of nodes! yay haha... about time....

lets see what time has in store for us

:)

hopefully they adjust :P

good friends of mine have great results using 1/4 strength solutions to start out... i havent seen 1/4 strength solution go wrong yet...

i do agree with u on the too quick part... transplanting, watering, lighting increase is a big shock all at once...

nutes they are used to at 1/4 or even less than 1/4 strength.... just a little zip of juice :P

anita - the pics r in my previous post, i'm going to saw down the wood a little bit to alter the heights and closeness to the plant canopy

I keep my cfl's closer than that, like almost touching them, but this is my first grow, so don't take that as advice.

I've read a few threads that say with cfl's you need the bulbs one inch from the plants.

i would have transplanted them all the way up to the first branch! i keep my cfl's about 3" from plant. i go no nutes till first set of 5 or more leaves then 1/4 nutes! i never go more than 1/4 nutes through out but everyone uses what works for them. whenever a plant dries out quickly , it most likey needs to be transplanted. looking good dude they/ll be kickin ass in no time!!!!!

great feedback guys....

yea any suggestions at all just let me know...

idk if im allowed to turn this into my little journal.... but ill try...

i'm going to bring the lights a bit closer in due time.... since i did all this adjusting and shocking to the plants i wanna start them off at a halfway decent distance.... then ill lumen blast them once they take nicely to their new home

:) ill post some pics once they fill out...

u think its too late to bury them further into the rockwool? or leave well enough alone?

so i sent the straggling piece of crap seedling to isolation island in the corner of the grow space

the other four stronger ones (including the beauty i named gorgeous haha) are doing well

i cut the sides off the one piece of 2x4 structure lighting thingy to get it really nice and close to the plants. i put a thermometer right in the center of things.... temps are at a nice mid-high 70's ...

4 cools, 4 warms, and the 13w OTT lite are working like a charm.... i'm going to water tomorrow possibly....

About 15 days from germination

looks ok?

They were a bit wilty from not being watered, and a bit wilty from the shock of just being watered... two have fat leaves, two are lanky and tall wit skinnier leaves....

That one has such fat leaves that it looks like a strawberry plant. :)

They look good, way better than my plants of the same age.

Keep up the good work.

thanks man... good luck to u too....

im thinking about just bringing up the plants to a decent size on the cfls... then going straight to hps...

good idea?

sounds like a good idea to us. someone once said cfl's bring out the best in seedlings, and they work great for veg.

as for the hps, definitely the way to go for budding (well that seems to be the consensus).

i think your plants will turn our great if thats what you do!

thanks ! i jsut sealed the whole hydroponic deal and filled the res with nutes on a watering schedule of 3 times per day for 15 minutes each time... hopefully that works

ill keep it posted

sounds awesome, you gotta post some pics when everything's set up and let us know how it works out. we've been thinking about hydro for a long time now, but we need more space!

hydro seems like the way to go.
