Helios 10 Light controller (breaker question)

No need to downsize the 50a breaker to a 20. Your relevant OCPD will be in your upstream load center.
Heres the situation. My current 40a 240 dryer outlet is *most likely* not going to be used. (depending on how well this little 120v combo unit works out...)
So, I could replace that breaker with a 20a and just run any ol' 8 outlet controller, BUT just in the rare case I need to use a 240 dryer (only during lights off of course) I would want to have the 40a available.
am I dreaming with that?

The breaker that feeds your dryer receptacle is the relevant ocpd. Wiring should be #8 cu or larger to be compatible with 40a ocpd.

I was wanting to replace the breaker on the Helios 10 with a 20a, and plug that into the 40a dryer outlet. That way, when the lights are on they wont get more than 20a, but on the off occasion, I can just unplug the helios and use the dryer at its normal 40a.
I'm too noob at electrical work or don't understand the Helios 10 completely (limited docs available) but to me I was seeing it as kind of a "plug in circuit extension" or a plug in 1 circuit sub panel (of sorts) with outlets?
