Heat problems

Dudes

I am growing in a box 2.5ft x 4.5ft. I have 7 cfl's in there. On an average of 25w per bulb. The problem I have is heat. With the lid closed for anything over an hour it heats up to 100 degrees!! :shock:

I usually leave the lid propped up with a fan blowing in it which keeps it down to about 85c but I really wanna be able to keep the lid down.

I am thinking about a series of PC fans. With some blowing in at one end and some blowing out at the other? Will that work? :confused:

ALSO, big question:

How do you power a 12v PC fan in ur home? I tried a little 9v battery, which worked but died within about an hour.

What have you guys used?

PC fans are a good idea. You can use any old 12v cell phone charger as a plug, just splice the wires and you're in business. There are PC fans that run on AC power too.

Try and use 2 fans, one at the top and one near the bottom. Or if you get a fan that moves a lot of air, you might be able to just cut a hole near the bottom and use that as passive air intake. If temps are too hot, another fan will probably be needed. You want temps below 80 degrees F.

Yeah pop a hole or 2 in the bottom or on the side near the bottom and have a fan at the top for exhaust. Then just get another fan and have it blowing over the top of the plants and you should be good.

I did a grow as an experiement a while back and regularly had the temps between 85-90....sometimes into the 90's! and they survived and produced a good amount of bud. I think the constant high temps and not flucuation of temps was the key to the grow. I definately dont recommend it and we need to do whatever we can to get the temps stable and keep them optimal.

I had a similar experience during my last grow. Temps got well into the 90's due to problems with my thermometer. It's a damn miracle I still ended up with an ounce per plant.

Dudes, thats wicked. Pretty much exactly what I thought but wanted to check with you. So i'm gonna buy a 12v adapter, splice the wires and have one fan removing the air and another blowing accross the top of the plants.

Just to say, they are only ever up in the 90's for an hour or two. Most of the time I have the lid propped up and a table fan blowing air in. I just want to get the box stable and sealed ready for flowering time!!

Also, I once done a grow under a halogen bulb and although it was 3ft above the plants, the temp at the top was contsantly 95c. They came out with one of the stickiest, sweetest bud I ever smoked. They did hermaphropdite but I think that was due to my innaccurate dark period (tried to save money on not buying a plug timer. Relying on memory is not a good idea for someone who smokes 3g a day!).

So clearly plants can grow at high temperatures (dependant on strain) and I even heard rumour of how new research has proved that by keeping temp at 90c for the veg period can stress the plant just enough to produce higher growth rates. But im yet to have this confirmed.

thats crazy, well i got access to a halogen light,i might have to try that.

i have two pc fans wired to 12v adapter, works good but it can be a little strong for smaller plants, so i suggest either time rotation or alot of space. i guess each fan fluctuates so u may not have any probs.

i know i can only clear my room out and give em a little wind maybe 3-4 times a day for 5 mins each and no more.

my room can get a little chilly and it stays around 69-70 but after 5 mins of the fan it hits 65-66.

I will give you a good and cool suggestion... check this out.. up at walmart they have a 2.5-12 v (i think) adapter in the electronics section it comes with many different tips and it's only like 12$ ... what I did was cut the end off and spiced to computer fans a larger one at the top (because heat rises) and the smaller one at the bottom in a small 1'x1' x 3' box now on the part that you plug in there's settings on there to runn many different types of adapters 2.5 all the way up to 12v there's like 6 different settings... I closed my box and started on the lowest setting 2.5 and it ran my fans fairly slow , noted the temps on a tablet and after 10 mins I turned it up another notch waited 10 mins and noted that temp and so on until I got all the way to the highest setting which was 12v ... (kinda like a thermostat) pretty cool... I have 1 46 watt cfl and 6 26 watt cfls with 2 plants inside ... on my lowest setting i'm at 88 degrees and on my highest setting i'm at 65 degrees... i'm running it in the middle 10 v I think it is and i'm running at a constant 75 degrees... pretty cool actually I was amazed lol... but instead of the charger labeling volts I changed all the settings with a piece of masking tape and a pen to (degrees based on my lil experiment so if I go to the box (have a wireless hygrometer inside ) and see that i'm to hot or to cold (depending on the outside rooms temp I can turn it up or down and have never had a probl....
