Heat Lamps... Need some help...

I have a setup of about 7 plants and they're doing well. They're about 4 weeks old and I just started them on a 12/12 light cycle yesterday from the lights being on 24hrs. I'm using Heat Lamps of about 250 watts each. I have 3 of those lamps in my setup. They seem to work well. I have a fan on and it keeps the area nice and cumfy. They look like they're on the skimpy side, like there should be more leaves or branches or something. I guess it could be the strain too though huh?
My questions...
1) Is it the right time to start the 12/12 light cycle?
2) Is there any other light cycle I need to switch them to later on...like in another 3 or so weeks?
3) Can I keep the lights that I have for their whole life? (I do plan on purchasing other light options, but that's what I'm working with at the moment.)
4) Do I, or should I prune?? The look on the skimpy side, so I was just wondering if they look "normal"?
Here are some pics to get a visual of what's going on...
Any help would be Awesome!! Thanks!

you can lower the lights, but they are skimpy and wont produce alot/if any bud at this point. i would cut and clone the the tops and start from there, but idt your ready for cloning.

Easier than that, goto menards or lowes.
Either place will have these in the electrical department. You want to have the most lumen's to watt your money can buy. Go and get CFL's. they are around $8-$15 some places charge more. http://www.amazon.com/Feit-Electric-ESL23TM-Fluorescent-Incandescent/dp/B000E8SVWC
thats a 2700k light. You'll need a 6500k light for vegg, and 2700k- 3000k lights for flowering. They dont produce alot of heat but some. You will need to get a mogul and some wiring. If you can get to a menards lowes or home depot most places will show you or explain how to wire them.

As far as the skimpy part, thats because the are stretching really fast due to the light being so far away,

I would say 4-6 lights would be good.

yes you can start flowering them now, unless you want to start a few mothers, then i would look up cloning on here.

If not and they are regulars (you dont know what sex they are) then i would wait and put them in the 12/12 to start the flowering process to sex the plants.

depends on how much monetary value you put on your seeds. if you don't want to toss them because of how much they cost, then try lst-ing and get them lower. problem is that your 2nd node starts at around 6-7 inches, which is too much. right now i have 3rd nodes at about 3 inches or so. you can try cloning if you are able and know how to, but you could always start new seeds, while you measure if lst-ing is producing the kind of results you want. def, don't prune the few leaves you got going there.

Thanks for the replies!!

Ok I got my CFL's installed. (pic)
Do you think they'll make it Sarge...? Or should I prepare the family?
I started some new seeds tonight... so hopefully my next bunch will look a lot better than these........right?
Thanks for the help!!IMG_6641.jpg

ya you'll have to switch them to 12/12 soon. but ya your first grow usually sux, but they get better at it.

Oh...and what about pruning... Should I prune the tops to hopefully get more branches? Or just leave it be and hope for the best?
Thanks!!

i wouldn't because they can hermie depending on the strain and stress, but it's not unheard of to re-veg a girl. your plants are going to get really tall by the time they are done flowering, i would really consider tying them done, consider of course, how much height room you can manage to have.

honestly man, when those new seeds sprout, ditch these plants. I dont want to say your wasting your time, but i believe that you have made enough mistakes on this grow. Your intentions were good, but a bit misinformed. Make sure theres good drainage in your pots, dont over water, and when those new germed plants come put them ~3-4inches from those lights. You will be impressed by the progress they will show compared to these plants. tight internodal spacing is key. good luck w w/e you do
