No way of knowing until it starts to flower if you have a male or female. I once had a female seed that I ordered and it turned out to be a male.
As for your soil. I would secure your plant at the base where it enters the soil turn your pot upside down. "BE VERY CAREFUL" you don't want to ruin your root system and send your plant into shock. refile your pot so you have about 1 inch of soil from the top. Dig a nice hole in the center of the soil so you can replant your plant and secure it gently around the plant. But after doing all this, "DO NOT" bend it back over. Give it a few days to recover from the transplant.
