Harvesting

I am wondering ,about a week or so before harvesting,a white powder begins to appair on the leaves of the plant,anybody knows what that is? and is it a good sign or a bad sign?

I didn't have any on my leaves, but there was some on the stalk and a few of the branches...right before harvest too....looked to me like powdery mildew, and that's not a good thing.
