Harvesting at different times

Just a question:

If you harvest cubensis mushrooms say about 50% mature compared to 100% mature or over ripe, will there be a difference in the buzz you get? Kind of like when you harvest cannabis and the trichomes are clear you get a heady high, cloudy a mix, and red a couch lock budy buzz?

Thanks for the replies in advance dudes and dudettes!

There is a greater variation between flushes than between mature and immature fruits.
HOWEVER, it is so small you would not be able to blind test by just eating some.

Quite frankly in my opinion, if you have to worry about potency, you are simply doseing way too low.

I have heard it said that picking early changes the length of the effect, and I have heard it from knowlegeable people. I think it is bullshit. Much as I revere this species it is no marijuana, it does not have the magic of 50 chemicals in different amounts vying for the attention of your body in different amounts and qualities. I believe, if it did, it would have taken the crown as most popular brain food from pot some years ago.

Id say no...itd be a waste itd only be 2 days for them to triple in size and bigger the better i think. Let them veils open and drop spores all over the place. Potency wise is pretty much gram for gram dont matter when they were harvested.

AEsthetics however, dictate that you don't let the spores fall everywhere, the caps tend to pick them up and look ugly. It is said that the spores give off a gas that inhibits further pinning and enough spores will crust the surface of the substrate or casing, also inhibiting fruiting. Imagine this in the same light as sesimilla, the organism frustrated in it's attempt to reproduce tries ever harder to do so, if you don't let the organism send out spores it will try ever harder to send up more fruit. (and this is likely total bullshit I made up on the spot because it sounds plausable and poetic).

Picking just a bit early makes nicer fruit when they dry and are just a bit more reistant to being broken.

I had always wondered about the fact that after a certain point mushrooms "lose" potency. What they actually do is not Gain any more so a mushroom that weights 1 gram and it's brother that is older and weights 1.5 grams have the same amount of active substance. Thus, they don't lose potency they just spread the potency they have across a larger mass. What I wondered is how this could be. the explaination I got was that after a certain point, the mushroom does not add more cells but instead the cells it has expand. This explains the fantastic speed at which a mushroom will finish. We can watch a pin relatively slowly grow to adolecence, 3 inches tall over the course of 4 days and then see it explode to adulthood in less than one - it takes far longer to build cells than it does to simply expand them. Anyway, that is the explaination that seems the most reasonable.

I've always read to pick em right b4 the veil breaks. Besides, who wants the extra spores mucking things up in the fruiting chamber?

I disagree with letting the veils open, the spores are A not good for you, not good for your lungs, give you stomach problems, dicourages pinning of subsequent flushes.
You get the maximum psilocybin/weight ratio at the point just before they break open.

Thank you so much guys, i really appreciate the input. I just ate a HUGE cube... i wonder what just one really big one is gonna do, heheheeeee!!!
