Harvesting ?...anyone ever try starving the plant instead of chopping it?

just wondering if anyone has ever tried to starving out one of their plants instead of chopping it down...what i mean is to stop watering it ...i was wondering if maybe the plant would then suck whatever nutrients it could until if finally died and possbily be more potent...rather then just chop and turn upside down when it looks like its ready ...thoughts?

yea try that shit out and report back It makes sense... cyanne peppers seem to dry better on the plant, I think I would trim all the big fan leaves off

Combine with extended lights out. As someone else here once said and it stuck in my mind - fuck leaving your plant for 2 days of lights out. it looks exactly the bloody same. leave it for 6-7 days of dark (in which it is incidentally starved, though i never thought of it like this) and there is an actual difference.

I did it last summer. Was going to Europe for vacation, and time got away from me leading up to leaving. Wasn't intentional that I left it, but I basically shut things down and forgot about the plant until I came back a couple weeks later.

As far as potency, I didn't really notice any change from when I shut down to when I actually harvested, but it was a bit of a mess harvesting. I very much would rather take all the fan leaves off while it's still moist enough to just snap em off. Also in doing this, the buds/plant were much drier than I would normally like prior to curing, so it tasted a bit of grass instead of smoove goodness.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the dark period at the end of flowering. Not very many of the people who talk about it have actual lab evidence to back things up, they just have their opinions... I believe 2 (or however many) days of extra light is more beneficial to producing more potency than 2 days without it. Course I also have no lab results to back up my theory either.

What I do to let the plants know it's last chance to do their thing is to start dropping temps a bit the last couple weeks. I also usually heat my water to 70 or so degrees so the plant uses less energy to heat the water before it can use it. During these last couple weeks, I will stop heating the water, and leave it around 50 or so degrees to mimic the cold rains of autumn. This seems to bring more color and more stink for me than trying to make something happen in last few days, as I think it takes a bit longer than that for the plant to react.

Your final flush should be the only starving you do to your plants i think.

Wouldn't the plant become so dry it would make it hard to trim?

i wouldnt think it would get any drier than it would if you cut its main vein by chopping it down..might actually take longer to dry if left to starve....also trimming right before the leaves started drooping would probably be alot easier then waiting for them to die...some other posters in this thread also mentioned the dark/light period after harvesting...i would think using the starvation method with the lights on ...then turn them off at the same time you would trim the colas so they dont get to dry or burn and just let the bud dry right on the plant...i have an auto nl that i might give this a try with just for kicks..who knows the colas might turn into rock candy lol
