Alot of different people say different things on RUI and on other forums about the colour the hairs should be, white, amber?

Yeah like straightjacket said... They'll start out white and turn to amber as they mature and the buds become more potent.

So when the hairs go reddish brown that more or less means there done dont it?

Not a reliable tell imo. The pistils go brown after a while, but in my grows, new ones kept growing in all the time. When most of the pistils have withered, it is time to be more alert, but so much depends on the strain and the grow. Jmo. cn

Well my grow is in my sig and yes i ment pistils :)

So what colour SHOULDthey be , pro adv please

Someone already covered it. No plant is exactly the same. For the most part they will start out white for a while. Then some will turn red.Typically the ratio of red to white will increase the closer the plant gets to harvest. Most ripe plants will still be pushing out new white hairs though.

^^^ Yup All pistils start out white, if they get pollinated that will shrink and turn color fast and might even fall off, if not pollinated they grow fat and take a long time to turn color and usually don't shrivel like pollinated pistils
