H.p.s Light/general ?

I have just bought a hps light of ebay with a ballast and everything for £66. It has a 400watt sylvania dual spectrum bulb. at the moment i am using 3 floro lights on two plants, and have six seeds germinating. 3 ice strains, and 3 skunk#1. when the seeds germinate, will they take kindly to the hps light or shall i put them with the floros, and then move them up to the hps.
Also, does anyone know how much bud i could gett of one plant if it was grown reasonably well with my light?
Medium i am using:
>1 part soil
>1 part perlite
>1 part gritty sand

I would let them vegg for awhile under Compact Flouro's for awhile and use the HPS to flower.
Also, if you start flowering at about 18-24 inches, the overall plant will double to triple in size. So you would be looking at a 3-4 foot plant. If it was topped, I would say you can expect about 1 1/2- 2 oz. of dried and cured bud per plant, provided the plants aren't crowding each other out of the lights. You can always add CFL's on the edges for additional light.

K mate, i would parshaly agree with celticman, but the bulb is a 400watt sylvania dual spectrum bulb. thus meaning it has blue lumens and red lumens, so use the fluro's and when the plants have grown to about 1 foot... kick in the HPS untill harvest.... make sure.... MAKE SURE... you keep the temeratures donw... or ur plants will die... :'( so keep it between 70-80'F u dont want it to go over 90 For sure... and if u use c02 u want it at 90'F but if ur not using c02 they start to fry at 90... and i say dont use it right away because there baby's and they need to be a bit stronger and be drinking more water.. make sure u have a fan also mate!

i dont think my lights are compct floros, they are floro tubes at 21watt, 3 of them. I dont even think they are growing lights, but it says t5 on them. Are they still ok to grow with in the veg stage?

yeah well.. are they cool light? or warm light... cause if there warm light... might aswell turn on the HPS from start... but if there cool light... keep em very very close... 1-4inch max... then after they develope a bit, turn on the hps about 1-2 feet away Put ur wrist under the light to test how hot it is also... you dont want HEAT burning ur plants... its very sad. you should be fine those so as soon as they grow 10 inch's or bigger and are lookin healthy.. plug in the hps :)

also, i thought that as the hps bulb is dual spectrum, and has veg and flowering light ( blue and red), doesnt that mean i can grow from seedling to bud without changing from that one light?

Yes like i said... but the HPS is producing so much heat.. u want to watch out cause u will burn the plants... and they will dry out and u will have no plants enymore :(... its safer to use the fluro's for birth untill there showing sign's of healthy growth.. then turn the hps on and make sure they stay cool, a fan is manditory.

k well use em untill ur plant gets a bit bigger then turn on the hps.. make sure it doesent burn you.. and ur plants shouldent burn. :)

cheers mate!
