Growing under Canopy vs growing out in the open

What are the differences? Will yield/quality differ that much?

EDIT: by "under canopy" im talking about growing under trees, or in a forest/wooded area

You just need to make sure the plants get enough light during the day.

The spot where I grow gets 11- 12 hours a day during June and July but it decreases rapidly to 8-9 hours a day starting at the end of August- October.

I have also grown in spots where the plants will only get 7-8 hours/ day at the beginning and only 5-6 at the end. Basically I had planned the site in the winter and did not think the Canopy would grow as much as it did. BIG DIFFERENCE as far as growth and yield and some plants in that location actually died.

I would want to get AT LEAST 10 hours a day of solid sunlight during Veg. (June, July) and AT LEAST 8 During flower (September, October).

Yeah thats what i figured. looks like im going to be growing on the out skirts of the trees since there isnt really any clearings i feel comfortable growing in.

It will drasticly reduce your yeild. I have seen plants yield half as much as other plants within 10 feet of them due to the bigger ones getting an extra hour or two of sunlight per day.
