High all. DUGOUT here. I am growing 3 plants in my hydro closet because I have to small a hydro unit to plant all of them in there. I have them in pots about 5 inches and I need to know how big of a pot I should transfer them too. Also how do I avoid root rot and fungus control. Any information I can get on this I will really appreciate it. I am finding out that this is a lot more complicated than I thought but I am not giving up I will figure it out and a lot of it is due to you guys help and I really appreciate it. Thats all for know so burn one for me. The old hippy DUGOUT

I have them in regular plant pots that I got with some flowers to start them but I don't know which way to go know any help will be appreciated. Also the other day I decided I needed to get them closer to my haylight one has just about died and some of the others got brown spots on the leaves so I moved them back down I have not seen any bugs. Is this normal. Hey thanks a lot and burn one for me the old hippy DUGOUT:joint::peace:

My hydro system is to small for 5 plants so I put 3 in pots and am growing them right next to the hydro system. My system is about the size of a square 5 gallon bucket. My plant that I thought I burned up seems to coming back. Do you have some answers smokertoker. Thanks a lot and burn one for me. The old hippy DUGOUT

I suggest putting them in the hydro system. I think growing in water is easier than in soil. You may want to think about either additional buckets or getting a bigger rubbermaid container about 2'x3' for your plants. You not going to get root rot in hydro as long as your air pump is running, unlike soil you just don't want to over water. It's not so complicated, get the first one down and at least you'll be producing. Not a problem burning one for you... good luck...

Hey all dugout here sorry it has been so long but been very busy. I ruined about 5 really expensive seeds with my hydro unit because I didn't do it right started nutes way to soon. So I got some Miracle grow and started them in small flower pots then bought buckets and filled them with miracle grow let them grow about 3 weeks in the miracle grow and know I have started a low dose of bat, seagull and worm guano in the liquid form I have been doing this for about a week and they really seem to be taking off really well. They are roughly about 20" tall know and tomorrow I will top them and I also started pruning last week I am going to give them about another week and a half in veg state then move to the flowering stage I figure after about 6 weeks I should be close to the final product. I have done a lot more studying and I feel I am ready to try the Hydro unit again except this time just one good seed until I get the hang of it. This has definately been a learning experience and the biggest problem that I had was I got in a hurry and try to rush things. I have a good book on growing now and feel fairly confident that I have a better handle on it I don know not to start nutes for about 2 weeks then start low. I started low just started way to soon. I do have one more question. On my plants they look really good but some of the fan leaves have a brown area around the outside of the leaf that looks like it might have burnt a little from the light is this normal I have not seen any fungus or spider mites or any other kind of bugs. Let me know what you think. Thanks so much for all the feed back and I appreciate you burning one for me and I will burn one for all of you. Have a great day the old hippy DUGOUT

Dugout, if the top of your plant is untoughed, i cant see your fan leaves getting burnt by your light (what watt is your light?). It must be nute burn or a nute deficiency.
If you are going to top your plants, why dont you take a few clones aswell, save you going through the seeding process (or is there a reason you wont clone?)

Hey Fitzi, Dugout here. As far as the leaves go I only have the browning on a couple of leaves everything else looks good but I will keep a close eye on them. Not sure how to measure my nutes in dirt I can do it with liquid but not sure about soil. These plants that I am growing I am not sure about got them from some weed that I bought it wasn't bad but nothing to brag about. So instead of wasting more of my good seeds I used the other to get a feel of what I am doing. I need to see what I have male or female and I don't want to get to excited till I see what I have. If they are female I will take a couple of clones but if not I will start back with my good seeds. Any way thanks for the feed back and I will watch the nutes check at garden store for soil tester. Anyway have a good one and burn one for me the old hippy dugout

Get some regular soil with NO NUTES, promix HP works great stay away from Miracle Grow. Oh and most important KEEP IT SIMPLE. Your getting to anxious about little things, dont worry about anything till it actually happens. Soil will be way more forgiving, Always dilute nutes, especially in hydro systems, Remember to start low because you could grow with Only water so Even a little is a lot!

Root rot would only happen if your over watering and using soil that is compact and muddy. You want some nice airy soil, add some perlite if its not premixed. And biggest thing is to Not Over Water, I sometimes go a week without watering my bigger pots, Stick your finger in the soil, if its even a little moist its probably fine.

Its like this, when you transplant into soil your going to make sure not to pack down the soil around your plants, the first time you water the soil settles and the water quickly runs down and soaks the soil. If your smart and wait a few days to water you will notice that the top of the soil will be dry crumbly and chunky, and most important it will be quite lite and airy, so the next time you water, the water flows through the soil easily, then drys out the same way so you always have airy soil.

If you over water and your watering when the soil is already wet, then the water will pool up on top and start to get muddy and the soil will get too wet and too compact, and thats where the problems will start.

any plant with 4 nodes or around 6-8 inches should be planted into a Min 11 L pot, that will give the roots lots of room to stretch out and they will grow fast!!!

Your obviously only in Veg so I dont know what your feeding them, But I give all my plants just a basic full coverage veg hydro veg nutrient, I use GH grow and Thats it. Check PH and use good water and your good to go, dont over do the nutes for veg, Some Diamond nectar is also a good GH product.

Just remember not to overdo it, soil is so easy and forgiving, if you overdo the nutes you simple give them some plain water on the next watering and then resume your nutes with a more diluted solution.

Its basically Hydro bud grown in a Neutral soil / pete moss medium.

Anyways I hope this helps, just remember to keep it simple.

peace

Hey BC trippin, Thanks a lot Pay day is tomorrow so I am going to get a new soil to put them in. Right now I have them in Miracle grow so I am going to transplant and try to get rid of the problem. I hope all is well with you and will let you know how it is going in a couple of weeks I am fairly sure that I will be ok the problem is not that bad yet so hopefully making a few small changes will help thanks again and burn one for me the old hippy DUGOUT

Hey folks DUGOUT here. I was having a little problem with over nuting but I have just been running regular water throught them and they look as thought they are coming back. I have a question though I have been told I shouldn't have used Miracle Gro but they seem to be doing really well they are probably about 2 feet tall and the main stem is probably about a 1/4 inch around have been using a fan on them every day so they are really strong I have them staked and pulled back so as the light reaches them better. I have just went to 12 on and 12 off to start flowering I figured I would use my hay light for another week and then switch bulbs. My question is I am seriously considering transfering them to my Hydro unit but I am not sure of the proper way to get the dirt off of them and how deep to put them in my Hydro unit I have clay pellets and it is a square about 5 gallon bucket size drip unit. Also how do I properly handle the roots during this transfer and how much of a shock will it be to the plant any and all info on this will be greatly appreciate hey have a great day and Burn one for me the old hippy DUGOUT

Hey BC tripin I don't know wether you will get this but I appreciate all that you said a lot of good information. I have pretty much ruined my plant that I had in soil that I tried to transplant to Hydro unit but am finishing growing out to see what happens. I have lots of little buds that have white hairs and are green but a lot of the leaves are yellow and falling off. I have no smell what so ever and the buds on top the white hairs have turned brown. I figure I have about 3 more weeks before done so next week I will go to straight water and then dry them out and see what happens not expecting much but has been a really good learning experience and know where a lot of my mistakes were made. I will start germination of good seeds in about 2 weeks. Will get back with you all to let you know how things are going. Sorry I took so long to get back but I must have missed this thread when I was going through them I have a few. So have a good one and burn one for me the Ole hippy DUGOUT
