Growing from a seed

Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to grow from a seed? What is needed, and how long before I can put them in hydro?

I germinate the seed and insert it in a grow plug, which is buried in hydroton rocks.. strait to hydro. I keep the water level high enough to keep the plug moist. as soon as the roots hit the water, you can lower the water level some.
