Growing for just 2 people

Okay, I have never considered growing pot, but my husband and I would like to start. We are not interested in selling, just growing for ourselves--something like a couple of plants that can harvest several buds.
I looked at widow makers points, but this person is a large grower, so I am not sure what to do except following the seed to potting the plant stage.
Can anyone help us?
Also, we were recently given some bad ass chronic, but the seller was only the middle man, and was not the dealer, therefore did not know the name of the plant. It was definitely not skunk though. This had a mild, sweet sort of scent to it, but with the obvious smell of marijuana. I could not stop smelling it because it smelled so good! I just know it came out of Portland,OR.
So if anyone can help us with growing and identifying that would be great.

Yeah. I don't even know what a phx is.
You have to remember that we are new at this. We have been smoking for awhile--my husband more than me. So, anyone who would like to help us learn, should speak in layman terms <ggg>.

Just grow 1 plant in a closet or something under a 250 watt hps lamp. Sweet (fruity) smelling strains that are pretty popular right now are afghan kush, white rhino or widow, or train wreck. could be anything. you could easily grow 4 oz in 3 months or so to keep you going for another 3 months or so.

Growing one plant under a 250w hps is probably not going to yield anything close to 4 oz, especially for new growers. To start with think backwards. How much will the two of you use in 4 months (in ounces)? At first, figure one Z dried per plant. If you yield more than that, hurray, but for now it's a good conservative projection. If you are starting from seeds, then you have to plan for males-- so double the number of plants you want to finish with and add two (for bad luck). This is how many plants you need to start with.

The difference in cost between 250w and 400w is negligible, and for two of you you might outgrow the 250w'er. I recommend starting with a 400w.

Either get a switchable ballast or a hps ballast. If you get an hps ballast, get a mh conversion bulb for veg. stage. If you get a switchable ballast, get a mh bulb. Either way you want mh for veg. and hps for flowering.

I would suggest gettin a hydroponics kit, u can get for 8 plants with lights and everything to help you grow from begining to end, for me it saved me money and hydroponics is pretty easy when you find out your info, i'll post a link to a site with hydroponics kits that cost about 300 or so pounds
