Growing Edible Mushrooms for CO2 in same room

OK so i have this fairly big room about 10x15', well it is fairly big considering i only intent to grow 3 ladies. The room will be temp controlled with A/C and probably humidity controlled with a dehuey.

I also have another couple of rooms, that i am toying with the idea of growing a large assortment of vegetables and flowers under lights using some kind of hydro setup.

One of my ideas, was to grow some mushrooms, in a basement room that we have.

Then i read somewhere that mushrooms basically exhale CO2 and thrive on Oxygen, which i assume ladies will throw off, and we all know that CO2 can lead to better ladies.

Does anyone have any advise, warnings, experience or wisdom for me on this topic?

I can divide the room so that not a great deal of light reaches the mushrooms, how dark do mushrooms have to be? pitch black dark or just kinda dimness?

Thanks to anyone who can provide some answers.

One thing to keep in mind is that the substrate in which you're growing the mushrooms needs to be kept pretty damp. I say as long as you make sure the substrate you're using, as well as whatever inoculant you use is clean so that you're not introducing any nasties into your grow, and you do keep the mushrooms a bit away from the light, it could be a fun and beneficial side project. Plus, you could grow something tasty like hen of the woods... yum.

Another option, maybe a bit easier, is to buy one of those ba
gs they sell at hydro shops now... I think they're called "Breathe"? It's basically some substrate inundated with mycellium that uses O2 to produce CO2... same concept, prepackaged and a little cleaner. But growing mushrooms is definitely fun :)

The one you are referring to is called "exhale" i think.

As you have noted, my idea allows both some fun and also some good eating. I was considering a CO2 burner, i have no qualms about spending that money... but mushrooms sounds more fun.

The room is pretty much pristine clean apart from some dust. I will be giving the room a total clean down before advancing too much further.

I would high suggest not buying the Exhale product you speak of if it comes in a bag and its supposed to produce co2, Yes it does produce co2 but it is extreamly minimal amount that you get from it. I have done lots of testing with a sniffer and well I had to leave it in a 5gal bucket with the sniffer in there and a lid for it to get up to 1500 ppm. Highly suggest not getting this product

I was thinking of having about this many at one end of the room.
Anybody got a thought or guess as to how much CO2 this might create?

Ahh yeah, while i remembered to put in my topic "edible" i forgot to say that i do not like trippy mushrooms, i have zero intention of growing them, i am not interested in any information relating to it, or any suggestions that i might start growing them.

I am well aware that some people enjoy them, but for me i would rather eat a hedgehog than eat "Shrooms"

To each their own...

Only edibles for me.

one thing to consider is that CO2 sinks compared to our nitrogen/oxygen atmosphere. Aaand mushrooms are extremely sensitive to light, they might just shrivel and die if left too exposed.

Certainly noteworthy.
I intend to blow the CO2 up and across the room with a little fan on the floor under the mushrooms.

Maybe a humidifier with a fan; I think the fan alone would dry out the mushroom media and make it cooler than necessary. I live in a dry climate so I'm used to that.

Where did you get on this? I'm growing my plants on wire shelving racks and I have enough vertical space to add a shelf with a mushroom bin. I would put it above my light shelf so the co2 sink to the plant at the bottom shelf...still not sure they would put out enough co2 to be worth the trouble.

As a mushroom grower, i would be worried about breathing in the zillions of unhealthy spores you would be breathing in. When lets say some oyster clusters are at peak flushes, the spores are literally like smoke in the air. Not healthy! Just sayin! Good luck... :peace:

cool concept. wonder how many shrooms you'd need for it to work? I once paid 20 drunken homeless ppl money to sit and talk to my plants for 12 hrs a day. it got the ppms up to 1200. shit was killer.

psyche. no I didn't.
