Been growing clones but the leaves are looking really bad dry yellow don wether there gone past the point of no return!!! Pics are hard to take the hps interferes majorly with camera

1) When taking pics, turn off the HPS and use the flash on your camera or pull plants out into natural lighting.

2) Use rapid rooters in a seedling tray with a humidity dome.

I've been propagating cuttings of plants for ages. One of the oldest methods to clone a plant is to just place a cutting into a cup of water. I think I saw mom do it and it worked for her so I tried it and I've been doing it ever since. A lot has changed since then. I've found that different species of plants respond better to different methods and not all plants take well in a glass of water. cannabis is one of those. And I think the reason is lack of oxygen to the cutting. So to provide O2 you really need to either change the water frequently or find a way to get O2 to the place where roots will eventually form. One way is to place an air stone in the glass and you'll need a aquarium pump to push air through a tube into the water. This should get your cuttings to push out roots pretty quickly. I personally use an aerocloner which mixes air and water and provides the best environment for cuttings. But if you want to keep cloning in a glass of water you'll need to get that O2 in there or it just won't work so well.

A quick couple of questions.

1. What type of cloning gel/powder are you using?(if any at all)

2.What is the PH of the water that they are in?

3.How long ago was the cutting taken?

There is a couple of things you can do to improve your success rate...

Clones like high temperature and high humidty

Temps of 80-85 is Perfect -- Humidity of 80%-100% is perfect.

Keeping them under a plastic dome is a great way to keep in the humidity. I use old cake boxes. They are work perfectly IMO.

Clones also like soft lighting. Fluorescent tubes and the best for cloning under. Once the clones are about 6inches,then put them under higher watt lighting.

^^^for soil propagation heat and humidity can help you but not in water. It actually causes bateria to flourish and can be the death of your cuttings. It's best to keep the water temp at room temperature or below. And the soft lighting tip point you made is a good one. I keep my aerocloners away from direct light.

No cloning gel!! Ph is 5.6 cutting prob 2 weeks ago I had 15 8 are in soil slowly rooting so thort I'd try this new method to see how they'd do!! I have them in clear cups due recommend me puttin a cake lid over them to keep the humidity in there right? There runnin in my tent with a hps bcos I have to keep temp up over night I have a large cfl with shade aswel but can't really put that answer else just for the 5 clones in cups!!!

spot on dannyboy.. i use a kids sippy cup, with a built in straw on the cup, and wouldn't you know it, the straw is the perfect size for an old air hose i had laying around from my co2 boost buckets..
i took the air hose, ran it down into the built in straw on the cup, hooked the hose up to the airpump that came with the co2 boost bucket, and voila a cheap, home made water cloner that works great... just gotta make sure it doesn't run out of water as the air and bubbles tends to evaporate the water quickly, other then that, works a charm..

what can i say, i'm a ghetto superstar, lol.. :D , thanks though cc, i try and make do with what i have laying around the house, just so happens the sippy cup worked great.. :D
It IS genius. Very creative raceroni;)

OP I took another look at the (not so good) pic and those fans don't leave me feelin very good. I'm inclined to say you're gonna lose em but hey, don't give up till they are dead dead, no what I mean? And next time take a few cuttings and stick em all in the same cup, and mb a larger one if you have it.

Edit: as to the cloning gels and powders, I don't use them in aerocloners and if you're cloning in a cupmof oxygenated water I think it's best not to either. The plant manufactures its own hormone for root production so anything you add is just going to muck the water and promote bacterial growth.
