growing a small plant

Im very new at growing and it seems like everytime I get something going it gets so tall and so thin that the leaves are to heavy for the plant. I am doing 18/6. I see some of the pics you guys put up, and they look like nice, small, and fat. How can I do that? Id only like to have about 3 successful plants for personal use.

BTW im doing this indoors.

you Could be streaching the plants ...... how far are they from light sorce... move it closer so they dont have to streach as much( dont burn ur house down ) ... i have no experience dont take this word as fact... post pics plz and more experience growers can give u a more full proof answer ( even thou thats prolly right)

That was the same problem I had the first few times I tried growing... you need more light... cheapest thing to do is but 2 or 3 42w CFL spiraly light bulbs for 9 bucks each...

try not to laugh to much, but this is what i got ...

more LIGHT !! to me it looks like there way over streached ...i would double check what kind of bulb ur using and get a diffrent one ? move it alot closer ? and how many plants do u have growing in that "little bowl ? how long have they been growing.... and i think white paper or something white.. is better then foil... ive herd foil can cause hot spots... and white paper works just well reflecting light

So my white wallpaper should be sufficient? Ok thanks! Im going to buy two of those little spiral lights.
I threw a bunch of seeds together in a bowl. So theres about 8. I was planning on separating them when they get older. Bad idea?

i would say thats a very bad idea... the plants wont have room to grow and.. separateing them once they have their root systems down could cause major shock and kill the plants... always keep seperated from now on.. or if u really want them together use a very big pot..... look in the 101 questions section it tells u how to do things right
GL with that thou Keep em alive ^^

looks like all my early attempts... wasn't untill recently I learned though...
What Iv been doing with my newly sprouted plants is put them out before I go to sleep about 2 in the morning. and than take them in at about 6.30 at night... I then put them in a little Germ box I made out of a plastic storage bin and put in one 42WCFL and lined the walls with mylar... have 2 3 week old plants 1 3 day old plant and 3 clones that I do this to and they all look pretty good so far... I tried putting in 2 lights and killed a plant and almost all the rest...
