Grow Tent Cooling Question

Is having one exaust fan powerful enough to vent my 38"Wx20"Lx82"H grow tent sufficient whereas though I won't need an intake fan? My tent is a work in progress so far I have only purchased and cut the PVC piping for the frame.
 
exhaust fans are always more important than input fans - a strong enough exhaust fan will pull a vacuum bringing in fresh air. whether you will need more ventilation is a function of the air temperatures you have to work with and how much heat you're going to add from your lights.
 
Yea, like if your me then you have everything you could possibly ask for to help cool your tent except for some damn cooler outside air to suck in. I've found that you can get 10 different answers on different topics (and posters like rat will give you helpful good to use info) but until you test it in practice your never going to know. Where the rubber meets the road you know? I would guess that your going to need more exhaust then that for the entire op including light, tent and all. What size of fan do you have now, and it is inline or a full blown fan?
 
Thanks I'm gonna look around for inline blower that'll do the job now my only problem is figuring out how my calculated volume correlates to which inline blower. In other words a web site said to multiply width times length times hieght my sum is 62320. Now am I supposed to find a blower equiped to blow that amount of air?
 
I feel you reuiner lol I haven't gotten yet just dottin my I's crossin my T's you know before I go and actually spend money on something thats too much or not enough. Basically trying eliminate alot of the "error" as in trial and error. But that why we have this site and great ppl to help out.

i assume you multiplied inches, that's equal to 36 xsquarex cubic feet. so if you get a fan that can exchange the air in the tent 5 times a minute that would be a 180 cfm fan.

I know right I want to go and check it out. The west coast is more liberal with their mj laws than the east coast is they can schools and dispensaries whereas the east is as dry as the mohabe.

I have one of these cooling a 600W HPS in a 5X5 tent. Admittedly, they cost a bit to set up, but this thing is blowing cold air out the hood exhaust just like an AC. You can daisy chain multiple lights on one heat exchanger too. The manual recommends a 1/4 HP chiller and a 250 CFM fan or stronger for every 1000 watts of light cooled. I got a used chiller on craigslist for $300+ off retail, so you can do it on a budget with some proper scrounging. The best part is this lets you run a fully sealed system (provided you suppliment CO2,) not only does this increase yeild but this also makes pest control easier than ever. Just crank up the gas and watch those creepy crawlies suffocate! Anyone else here tried an Icebox? Results/Opinions?
 
one trick to keeping your shit stealth is never telling your girl this thing exists. one day she might go psycho on you after a fight and decide to hit you where it hurts by ripping up your stuff.... or worse :\ it's happened

This is some good stuff right here! Looks like getting all the stuff together is a little cumbersome and expensive but worth it end the end, one question though, how do you keep from having pressure in your tent if that thing is blowing inside it, seems like without something sucking air out there would be a bulge in the tent with air trying to escape, along with the smell...??????
 
Good question Ruiner I haven't bought the poly vinyl yet to cover the tent. So I'm not sure how the exaust will effect the tent. Do you think if I were to make the skin very tight with little to no slack would work to prevent the concavement of the tent? Or would an intake fan balance out the pressure and keep the tent looking smooth?
 
Aww man good point but scary however she knows bcuz she saw the Home Depot bags and me coming home with 8 10' PVC pipes lol. See she smokes and I don't fore see her acting a donkey and destroying everythig that I worked so hard on that she will benefit from as well. But come to think about she is impatient so I make her breakfast in bed for while lol
 
Damn thats not good I probably would've used that intake fan as my exaust instead but having an enclosed and light tight tent with alot lights I know heat dissipation is a constant battle.

It doesn't matter what the tent looks like really, what I was talking about was the negative pressure issue. You want your tent to at least be trying to concave in because that means that the air is being pulled from it (and not leaking out everywhere there's a hole or airway). Unless your running a completely closed system this is good because you can control the air if the pressure is working with you, when the pressure is positive then the tent will bulge and stinky grow air will leak and smell. If you had something pulling air out and running it through a scrubber then you would have more luck keeping that aspect in check.

I think I was actually wrong with my initial question though, if the cooler that Green Rev was showing us was only circulating air in the tent and not pulling any from the outside then I can see how the pressure might work out. I think with a few ona blocks scattered about you'd be hard pressed to do better than a setup like that. I'm going to look into it; I'm already running a dedicated air conditioner just for my tent now anyway, so I don't see how this would be very different besides being even more enclosed and ready for c02.... that's my end goal, adding co2 to my setup.
 
you need to give the skin of the tent some slack to concave in under the negative pressure system. otherwise i foresee a lot of patchwork and strained seams.
