Grow Room Setup, NEED HELP PLEASE!

Alright first off, I'd like to introduce myself and get a chance to say hi to the community as this is my FIRST EVER POST! I'm a proffesional pot smoker, newbie pot grower. I'm setting up my grow room and desperately need some advice, criticism, whatever. To start, what I am looking to do is setup an old house's "cold room", which is located underneath my backyard. Basically this room was created for the purpose of making wine about 100 years ago, or so I'm told. They basically just dug out underneath the backyard and supported it with I beams and cement. This room has 2 small (about 4") air vents in the back corner. There is 1 door to get in and out of the room with a window to outside right above it which I plan to intake/exhaust out of if I have to.

The dimensions of this room 16' x 11' x 5'11". Yeah, the cieling is just short of 6 feet :wall:. One corner to the immediate left of the door is 3' x 3' and is not usable as there are cinderblocks from floor to cieling for who knows what. I'd like to use a 7x7 corner for the flowering room, in the middle a section for veg and a mother plant and (if possible) I'd love to harvest/cure in this room as well.

The room right outside this room is about 20' x 20' x 10', which cannot be used for growing unfortunately HOWEVER I can use this room for fresh air/exhuast if thats possible as it has 3 windows going to my backyard which can be used for intake/exhaust. New York weather so cold winters, hot summers.

I plan on having 1 nice sized plant flowering under a 600w HPS light, with another in veg, taking clones off a mother when ever possible. Nothing too crazy.

Bascially, what I am asking for help on, is well, anything and everything. I am not married to any ideas. I'm positive there a many many more questions rattling around my head that I'm not asking below so please feel free to put all of your input in here, not just what I am asking.

1. Should I use the room outside of the grow room to supply fresh air and allow the grow room to suck this air through the entrance, or just duct straight from the windows through the door to the grow room?
2. How much space should I dedicate to my flower room, veg room, harvest room. Do you think I have enough room in here for these 3 rooms. Iyo, do I have enough room for these 3 rooms?
3. How much space should i dedicate to my 600w HPS light to maximize harvest off of 1 plant.
4. How much space should i dedicate to my veg room and mother plant, and what type of lighting to each do you prefer.
5. What materials should I make this grow room out of, and how should I section the different rooms to maximize airflow efficiency.
6. What type of companies do growers find most effective/reliable. Lights, Hydro systems, Inline fans etc.

Any info any of you guys have is greatly appreciated, any input, any opinion and any criticism. Please don't be limited to the 5 questions above, as I am heavily "medicated" atm and most likely forgot a bunch of stuff I've been meaning to ask.

Did alittle bit of thinking for the layout of the room. Maybe a 7x7 room for flowering with a 4x4 grow space in it for scrogging. Thinking a cabinet about 4x4x6 for veg with shelf on top for clones/seedlings. Any good ways to consolidate these rooms to run off of the same intake/exhaust? Is it more efficient or quieter to run smaller, individual duct from each tent with its own smaller fans?

Pleased to meet you Docter, fellow NY neighbor here

Wow!! What an awesome space you have available at your disposal!!

I have a couple of ?'s for you in order to answer some of your questions

1 Is there a current electrical service in your (I think you were referring to a wine cellar?) area?
2 Have you done extensive research on FLIR? - I think under 1000w should be safe enough for you
3 Do you have a plan for pest control as this area is technically outdoors?
4 is there a floor in this area?
5 Do you have your mind set on a separate room for harvest and curing? if not, hanging drying systems take up little room and can be hung in flowering area.
6 Consider putting in some inexpensive shelving with fluorescents on bottom of shelf to keep clones under, they are out of the way and take up very little room.

With those questions being asked, I do have some suggestions for you:

Construction:
I beams and cement? Do you have a drill? Get a masonry bit and some pressure treated 2x4 lumber and attach with masonry screws vertically to the walls (lay 2x4's flat to wall and ceiling). Use some mold resistant drywall screwed to your 2x4's

Wherever you choose to stop your main "box" of a room at, build a stud wall and leave door opening for entrance to entire grow area and hang panda wrap down both sides of your "door"... Or install a door. I would make veg area closest to entrance with flowering area farthest from the entrance (drywalling both sides is not necessary)

Build stud wall down middle of your "box" to separate your veg/flower rooms, leaving doorway for pass thru. cover with panda wrap on both sides for easy light-blocking doorway

Ventilation:
Cut square hole near the floor by the entrance in both room to outside air source and put a box fan in backwards, sucking air through (fresh air)

Cut holes in top of wall in both rooms (this will be for your ducting out of your grow area and toward the vents/windows

Flat white mold-resistant paint/primer in one for 2 coats

If you are only growing one plant, SCROG all the way! Whether organic or hydro, you will get some serious yielding WITHOUT worrying about your height using this method. If your flowering room is 7x7 you can easily build a 4x4 scrog net and have room to access all sides of your plant!

Ballasts:
Quantum Horticulture or Solis Tek. Both have some great safety features built in and are relatively inexpensive (I got a 600w digital dimmable quantum ballast which can run MH or HPS for 99.00 brand new on Amazon)

Bulbs:
Genesis - Inexpensive and also won best bulbs for 2013

I too, have been a lurker for a while, but plan to unveil my project I have underway very soon. Hope to hear from you soon bud!

my current residence and where I am growing is right outside of kempton, few miles from ny. ty for caring about my well being though, i guess :bigjoint:

Thanks for the response ptrot!

1) electric is clear, I have 110v and 208 3phase
2)i'm well aware of FLIR, not very worried about it
3)i haven't put much thought it yet, definitly planning to
4)floor is concrete, have thought about bubblewrap insulation with plywood on top of it. dont want roots to be too cold in the winter
5)i plan to have another plant in veg as soon as one is hung out to dry, would it need its own tent/closet inside the room? dpends how much room it takes up inside, i guess i can spare a 3x3 space in one of the corners
6)great suggestion, i was thinking of having a compartment for a small mother with the clones underneath her

Couple hints from someone who has set up several rooms.

Panda film for walls and ceiling. 2 x4 and panda for dividers...with zippers for door.

I would highly highly recommend ge lucolux 600 HPS for flower bulb

Temp control. 4 inch inlet and outlet fans connected to a thermostat control. Overlap veg and flower light on times to prevent light off temperature drop.

Get a good Dehu unit.

I would recommend four small plants in a scrog for flower. Veg twice as many, cull the weak

Have fun and watch out for bugs!! I would do weekly neem sprays until week 6 of flower

Of course you were... as was I... I hear there are some awesome glass blowers in Ithaca btw balzac... any truth to that?

Please keep us updated with plenty of pics of your build! Im almost done building my area as well and its always exciting to see new rooms being constructed.:blsmoke:

kinddiesel thats the farthest thing from technical bahahahaha... but yea seriously i wonder what happened to the doc.
