Grow room lighting ?

I have a 5.5x5.5x9 framed in grow room in garage. My brother has offered to wire 3 48" t8 ballaste to my timer. That would add light to 3 sides of my medical grow. I already have two 600 hid reflector hoods. He will cover cost of ballast with 2-4 bulbs each with day light spectrum from Lowes. Would this extra light be worth adding or is it just over kill? Would it improve harvest? He thinks it would only add $20 to electricity bill per month. Opinions welcome

Bottom line no ...T8's are great for seedlings and early veg, and can be used for the entire grow with a change to warm red, in bud, but side lighting has always been a loosers farce, stick to convention as your plants luv that HPS, just enesure you keep them close and cool enough to my blog: https://www.rollitup.org/attachments/hps-dist-chart-jpg.3122889/

Thanks for the help. Didn't want to waist his time. Would probably be better to increase to 1000 hps hid lighting if I wanted more yield, but I bet it would increase power a bunch. May not be worth it.

The increase from 600 to 1000 is a lot of added power and as u increase power u increase heat. Then you'll need a way to deal with that heat. all the grows ive done with 1000w ive found I could get about the same yield with 600...and really 600 is all you'll probably ever need.

Best tool on the rack is your 600w HPS, lumen to watt ratio is best in its class, heat(btu) 2 watt is the best also lux 2 watt is the best, but does need a minimum of a large( 2mx2m) grow room or use a cool tube, yield will come with experience
