Grow 2 lbs. on a 2’ x 4’ 32 Site DIY Aeroponic Unit

im not the doc, but i have one of these systems.

as for water/nutrient level you need your water /nute level at least above the intake on your water pump. and still you should go 2 inches minimum above that level.

your plants when they get bigger are gonna use alot of the water/nutes. so if your shelf can hold it then put as much as you can as long as your water/nute line is below your sprayer heads.

as for your pump, if you are going to use a seperate rez, thats 3 feet lower you are gonna lose alot of pressure. one of my buddies went and got a new sump pump from lowes to do 4 feet. they have a chart that comes with them that lets you know how much pressure you are losing per foot of elevation

Good lookin out Tenstrip, I appreciate the reply man. After doin some testing on the weight limits of my shelf Ive decided against putting 30 or 40 gallons of water up there! It kinda sucks cuz I put alotta time into building the aero setup but I just cant afford ta have an upstairs bedroom flooded with that much water ya know! Im just gonna run a 2x4 ebb & flow table and put the aero ta good use later on. Ive been doin organics for years and this is gonna be my first hydro run, you think a 600 gph pump is strong enough to push the water up to the table 3 feet above it? Since im not doin aero now I know the water pressure wont be as much of an issue. I think 15-20 gallons is a sufficent amount of water for a 2x4, which will be half as much weight on the shelf if I have ta put the res up there with the table. But Id like to avoid having a large amount of water that high off the ground if I can.

OK first post here and i bought everything to build this setup this weekend.. I noticed way back in the thread you ended up moving the plants from the rubermade. did you keep them in the net pots? After getting them to the flower stage in the aeroponic unit is where im confused.

My apologies for the long absence. I am going to graduate soon, so I'm on it. Plus, I got my certification (Michigan) recently and have been helping many older patients. This is a beautiful thing, but free time is almost non-existent.

Anyway, I am attaching the old pics from this thread. Just to update the community, this can be a very stressful grow. I have tried it with a couple of different strains. Grapefruit Haze (pictured) yielded 20 oz. You need a heavy hitter to get the yield. I have been gathering new strains (Super Lemon Haze, Kushberry, Sour Cream, Blue Hash, Bubba Kush, Sour Diesel, G-13 Haze, LA Woman, Blackberry, Chocolope, Black Jack, Super Silver Haze, and an Afghani). I'm sure I can get the weight with BB, BK, BH and maybe more. I will set it up soon, and post a journal.

There are a few things to be aware of besides what has been mentioned. Don't put this in a 4 x 4 tent. You will need to access all sides to inspect, prune, clean, etc. A screen will more than likely be necessary. A drain port and level indicator must be included in this build. I added mine later. This tote will weaken around the little legs on the bottom due to the weight of the water (only 15 gallons will do it). A leak in the middle of a grow is very discouraging, and I have been there several times. The best thing is to set these on top of styrofoam slabs, the one inch thick ones. This will spread out the weight for even support. I never found a practical substitute for the curtain to prevent leaks, but don't like the curtain. It has to be replaced, and it takes time and care to install it properly.

I would put a 1000 watt lamp over the two of these. I did this recently in a grow with my old partner (should have stayed "old") using the unfavorable Grapefruit Haze, again. I'll find the pics, soon. The plants were beautiful at 8 weeks, with two weeks to go. But, after finding the bathroom window open...for the second time in one week...on a tenantless home...I called my partner to inform him that it was harvest time. Needless to say I settled for some very green plants as opposed to risking two more weeks with a lackluster partner. So, at least 1000 watts in semi-close quarters, with excellent ventilation, plenty of ceiling space, a screen and room to move around garden (about one foot). Have fun...:peace:

The cuttings began in these totes and stayed throughout the grow, but I would use a tray and rockwool. Cut a ton of cuttings and then select the plants that are the most uniform to transfer to the totes. Having a near uniform canopy is tantamount to success with this grow.

If you are going for weight, I would choose something other than auto-flowering unless you found one that yields big. The ones I looked at were low-yielders.

I just completed this design to grow within the law (I'm certified in Michigan). It is 4 x 4 and will be a less stressful grow.

That looks like a nice setup, did you build it? If so would you mind doing a smal DIY tutorial on it, or at least discuss some of the key elements. I might do somthing like this. +reps :)
