Green mold on top of rock wool? help!

Two plants dropped on me today in 4 " rock wool cubes.
The Top of the Rock wool is covered in thick Green Mold with white dry areas!

I set up an Isolation area well away from my other projects.
I put them under a T5 95 watt CFL fixture gonna run 24/7.

The plants were just treated w a spray for spider mites two applications 7 days apart over the last two weeks.

The plants are clones of Industrial and were under 600 watts with a schedule of 18/6 , food type is unknown, I was given a gallon pre-made, I will switch to Fox Farm Hydro liquid as that is my nute of choice when it runs out.

They have strong wood stalks and my question is, How do I move a plant rooted in rock wool to Fresh rock wool?
Can it be done??
My instinct is to cut the stem below the growth and put in new Rock wool, but I am unsure.

I have good success in cloning but I have never snipped a 2 month old plant and tried to recreate a root mass.

For cloning I use Olivia's at 1/4 strength with Fox Farm Big Bloom and Grow Big at 1/4 strength in my water PH at 6.5.
it works great at getting roots quick in Rock wool.

Plants are 12" tall lollypop trimmed then by prior owner trimming also done to remove yellow dead leaves and dead bud sites.
I trimmed a few yellow tips when I got them, but the plants look OK....

What Would You Do?
I want to keep these Babies Very Much, I will be super careful not to even wear the same clothes when around my healthy babies.
Please Help these Sickies!

Without pics, hard to say. All I can say is I had a green slime problem once -- it was algae and it died as soon as I covered the cube with blackout plastic. Other people use panda film. But is it slimy? Or dry?

Ok, if it's kind of bright green and slimy, that's algae. It will die quickly without light. I bought a box of blackout garbage bags for about $3, and I cut a square to cover the top of my cube and hydroton. No more algae problem! And it will take me two lifetimes to use up that box of bags cut into squares.

If you're going to move them to soil, kill the algae first, then I think it should be okay to put in soil, though I'm not 100% sure as I'm a hydro grower.

As for cloning, I don't clone so I can't help you really there either, but I do suggest killing the algae and giving these plants a week to settle into their new environment before cutting for clones. Reducing stress on the plant is always a good thing.

I took a look at your journal, that is Awesome for a Newbie!
I am a Nube too, I played outdoors 20 years ago in Upstate NY, I did pretty good back in the Day.
Now I have a fresh start and grey hair!

If you're growing in the cube for a while without any other medium (soil, hydroton), then cut a piece large enough to cover the top and drape down the sides, but don't literally wrap it. You need drainage. At some point the roots are going to be busting out and you're going to need to put it in some other medium.
