Green light / photoperiod question

Hello - I have a question that I'm hoping someone here can address. I'm currently in the market for a light to use for a few minutes (30?) a day, so that I can work in my room during the night period of my flowering cycle. I understand that green light will not disrupt the photoperiod - but am unclear as to what constitutes "green" light. I was told the other day, by a grow store employee, that one of those green painted "party" CFLs would do the trick - but I am not sure I'm ready to try it without further investigation.

So here's my question - is the light "green" if it appears green to the eye? Or is there more to it than that?

Any insight is greatly appreciated - I'd offer rep, but I don't believe I am able to give it yet due to post count.

This is the thing that kills me about this site, so much knowledge, yet getting at any of it is like pulling teeth.

If this were any other type site I'd have everyone from NASA scientists to the village idiot chiming in.

It's almost like the site is a repository for Al B's (and a few others) wealth of knowledge - where other people happen to chat about MJ related stuff.

Come on people, throw me a bone - please? :D

my buddy uses a green party bulb but sunlight supplie or hydrofarm has a green light just for this and its on a gead band you you only use what you need for you to see
