Got Gnats!

I had an infestation pop up overnight. Made small traps with Apple Cider Vinegar and a drop of dishsoap, cover with saran wrap and poke holes with a needle, tack, etc.

I wiped out an entire infestation in less than a week.
I like the idea, here is a similar method that I've used before to kill flies, gnats, moths, anything that's flying around your soil.

What you do is get a tray or bowl of very light soapy water, place the bowl/bowls/trays? around or near on the floor (or in a safe apparatus possibly?) nearby the infestation, preferably below your plant containers and not in an area where they might accidentally tip over.

Then the second part is get a single regular clamp light ( or similar bulb setup, even a small table lamp with a reflector on top would work, I've used before actually) and get a normal maybe 13 watt cfl or similar led SIL bulb (some bulbs light emittion may attract bugs more than others) and attach the light downwards facing towards the floor, maybe 12"-18" inches off the ground and securely attach the clamp light to a sturdy safe base in the proximity of the plants. And simply arrange your bowl traps around your light source, the bugs come a flying.....

This method only works during lights On, as we all know extra light during the dark phase causes hermie issues. An alternate idea would be to place this setup outside of your grow area, or have 2 setups and just rotate during light & dark periods, just be sure no spillage of light occurs.

You could also use the apple cider vinegar as you have mentioned above, in the water, or place another attractant below the light in the bowls like fruit.... but be aware that fruit spoils quickly and germs from the gnats may spread to the plants, so change the fruit or whatever frequently to avoid this issue if you use this as part of your method, as an attractant.

Just make sure to take all the precautions necessary as to not spill your bowl of soapy water is one the only risky issue's with this method, and I mean unless you spill it directly onto your plants root ball I'd imagine you'll be fine, and hopefully you'll have under control before flower if possible (Definitely don't want soap water making it to your buds ).

As a lover of simplicity, this is one of my favorite methods to control such pests, I also like the fly tape traps also, just be aware that adding extra attractant odors around your home or building might bring more pests near you home or building waiting to work themselves in again, which may not be an issue if your room is sealed well, just thought I'd mention.

Thanks 4 reading :peace:.

Nematodes
BTI
Neem (meal and oil)
Mulch
Yellow sticky traps

I use all of those and I find one or two gnats every so often on my yellow sticky traps. The biggest helper was using the nematodes twice in two weeks.

The coco I'm currently running seems to be pre-charged with loads of Hypoaspis miles. I didn't know what they were until I looked them up seeing their numbers grow increasingly at a crazy rate. They live only in the coco and in the containers (sips)

The coco is generic brick the same 5kg brick you'd find from say botanicare.

They are kind of gross and not as fun as nematodes but they are holding everything at bay so far.

Gnatrol is organic and safe andit works. Finding small amount has gotten tough.
Yes it does work, I think I let my gnat problem get out of hand and it wasn’t enough by itself to put the smack down on them. But with the sand covering the tops of my soil and the gigantic sticky traps have definitely kept them at bay

even after you think you kill them all they will return. i ad them little pricks once and they would get in everything even your lights. i took my led apart after i stripped my grow room and found like 50 dead guys on the heat sinks when your grow is finished set it on fire or bleach the shit out of everything wait 2 weeks then start growing in a fresh clean grow room or tent

Had a similar problem this spring. Too much wet soil brought inside at once. Went whole hog with nematodes, predator mites and just for fun, ladybugs. Ended up treating all the veggies too. The gnats are gone and it seems the ladybugs are attracted to my ladies for their pupa phase? Lot's of developing beetles chilling on the fan leaves. I get a kick out of pulling aside some top dressing and checking out the war going on in the soil with a 20x lense. I used to fear insects, now they're just a part of feeding the roots.
