Got Gnats!

I’ve got fungus gnats and I used gnatrol to kill them last time. This time I used the same spray bottle.... does that stuff lose its potency? It wasn’t working this time. I mixed a fresh gallon yesterday and am using it now. BUT can I use sand to stifle the little fuckers? And if so how would I top dress my soil? Because I top dress often as needed with organic meals

I dress mine with green sand and it works great. I mix it in the top few inches of my topsoil when I first mix it up along with 'Mosquito Bits'. I have put a thin layer on top but it has a tendency to dry out and get hard.
You can also use diatomaceous earth (don't use the type for pool filters!) and I've seen, but never used, a product that is just ground up glass.
I hope your not in flowering yet. Those suckers are impossible to get off of sticky buds

Yes I’m in week three of flour so things haven’t got sticky yet

I thought green sand was more of a macro nutrients

Just let the top layer of soil dry out a bit and sprinkle on some diatomaceous earth. They will not be back anytime soon but keep dusting for prevention. Adding neem seed meal in your mix directly as an amendment along with DE will help keep them away forever.

I'm sure you have had Gnats before

I too have had since

now is a game I like to play

avoid watering so much maybe upgrade your soil quality

either way lay potato slices/french fries on top of your soil

check the underside each morning for the worms

great fun more so powered by a toke

ps tho sand is a great idea too inadvertently adding sand to soil does improve drainage lol

I use sticky traps and diatomaceous earth. Allowing the soil to dry is the best way to control them. In my case I always have small #'s around but not enough to cause a problem IMO.

Two other items I use that I do not see above are soapy (Dawn or Ivory) water spray and neem oil spray. I take turns using those on the top soil, before watering I'll spray the surface to get the adults then use a fork to loosen the top soil and spray again.

The more ways you can make their life miserable the better.

DE? Is that the same stuff as gnatrol?

Neem Oil thats me

but often I've found Neem Oil too strong even overboard situation as really the gnats don't really damage the plants

some claim they are vectors for viri that I agree some claim the worms eat the roots

but in 40 odd years growing I've never yet seen any bite marks on my roots

good luck

what about this? Is it safe to use in flower, is it what you use?

Ok, I figured they were more of an annoyance but I’m at a point where I’ve just never seen more than 10 or so. Now my closets have maybe 30 in them. Thx for the help, why are you cautious about the Neem oil? I’d like to know before I do more harm than good to the girls.

Not cautious but thrify

also in case the stuff carries some after taste

with a population of 30 plus

I'd reduce my watering and

perhaps make up some yellow card traps

I sat sticky traps and fly tape out lasts night, before lights out. But I missed the mark and didn’t get home in time to check.
