good or bad for fans to blow directly on the plants?

it makes for better air movement if the fan is rotating.
that said, you'll want to be careful of the plants right in front of it, on either side of its "arc". the wind sweeping back and forth across your plants is actually a good thing, and will help to strengthen their stalks, but there IS such a thing as "wind burn".... i find that the plants in front of where the fan pauses at either side before swinging back the other way sometimes get it.

buddy has a B0X fan set on low at all times blowing on the plants. keeps em less stinky.

they dont sway too much the leaves just flutter around.

(The following is my opinion and is not meant to upset anyone)

I have asked the same question. I believe the osscilating fans are the best because my room has two temp monitors. Bottom temp and canopy temp. I stopped my fan in the center and the lower temp would raise as would humidity. So this brings me to MY conclusion that the fan(s) moving back and forth are the best way. BUT not the only way.

So what would be best? I'm doing it exactly as you described now

That is the best, but dont forget to allow proper intake and exhaust. All three are important.

EDIT: Not clear

I meant going back and forth is the best.

I have a small sealed room, I just close the door and it's kinda cool like shutting a spaceship hatch, then I can feel the wind in my feet. Do you reckon this is enough intake for a passive config?

As long as you dont have trouble holding the door back then a little swish is good. I get a little suction but its not enough to be a strain, you know what I mean?

my last grow i used an oscilating fan and i find as long as your not tearing the leaves back with wind, itll just strengthen the branches. and in NATURE, they get hit direct GUSTS of wind, so its not gonna kill them

What are you using the fan for or do you only have one fan?
If you have one fan than it should be on oscillate (back and forth)

Plants will use 100% of CO2 in less than 2 minuets if the air is stagnate. Blowing air to produce light movement also strengthens the plant to it can bear more weight. It also allows light to go where it could not before, as the plants move.

I have always had a small fan blowing over the top of the soil and one blowing between the plant tops and light.

The small fan at the bottom helps dry the top of the soil out fast and this helps prevent fungus natts and promotes air movement.
The fan at the top helps make the plants stronger and removes any heat.
IMHO
