Good guys or bad guys?

Hey RIU

I need an insight on these tiny boat-shaped white fast movers in soil. This is the second time I've seen them, both times there was some decaying plant material in moist soil (this time I left a broken head of a day old seedling laying around on the top of the solo cup). They don't jump or fly, just kind slither over and under the top layer. Are they good guys or bad guys?
Impossible to take a picture, fuckers move too fast

Thank you :peace:

Take a video zoomed all the way in.. then just scroll thru the video while it’s paused, and get some screen shots. I use the same method to check my trichomes nearing the end of flower.

Fast movers are almost always 90% friends, slow movers foes

i won't get a stone tablet and a chisel ready, but 99% those are springtails, they eat decaying material and are in almost all soil, including prepared, name brand stuff, don't worry about them unless you see some kind of problem developing that you suspect them of causing...but that would surprise me, highly

I'll try to do that if I catch them on the surface again, thanks for the tip.

Thank you, they did not look like bad guys to me. I feel like they were just there for the dead material
Springtails will come to the surface when you water. As the water drains back into the plant you'll notice them descend back below. They have a natural reaction to danger to "spring", makes them look like they are almost jumping.
