Good Beginner's Books

Hey all,

I'm new to both growing and organic stuff, and dying to learn more about organics. I've been reading and re-reading all of the stickied postings, but am curious about a good beginner's book that gets a bit more in depth with explanations and stuff (including things like the chemistry of stuff, what fermenting does on a cellular/molecular level, etc. That's probably no longer a "beginner's book," so maybe I'm looking for two recommendations).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I stumbled upon a recommendation a few days ago to read "Teaming with Microbes" and i have to say....It is a MUST in an organic gardener's library. Every organic grower should read that book no doubt. I loved it and learned a lot.

Teaming With Microbes is an easy read. It'll really help anyone who reads it understand what soil is all about and how the soil food web keeps plants at their happiest. It also makes it easy to see what the real "problems" with synthetic\chemical fertilizers are in an outdoor environment, because of course nobody ever fertilized an old growth forest.

As for Cannabis-oriented books, there are tons of them and I never really had to read any. I used to read High Times when I was in High School that is pretty much where I learned some pot-growing basics. I remember getting sick of the "legal budz" ads and general repetitiveness of the issues, really not offering much more after so long, plus that Jorge Cervantes dude just rubbed me the wrong way I think. All of HT is a shady enterprise if you think about it and do a little digging around about Tom Forçade, his death and Trans-High Corp.

I also picked up several Cannabis Culture issues until they went out of print. Thankfully there was also SKUNK magazine, totally more of a grower-oriented magazine if you ask me, and featuring segments on true living organics. If you want more generalized information on soil sciences and plant biology, Wikipedia is a decent place to start. Then there is the USDA, which provides a lot of the same info as Teaming With Microbes online. Academia\Universities also typically host articles related to agriculture, soil sciences, biology, chemistry, even quantum physics.

Beginner book that covers a huge assortment of topics "The Cannabis Grow Bible" by Greg Green. Covers everything from the origin of cannabis to basic understanding of breeding (OK section on Organics but nothing really in depth).
