Figured I'd start a log since I've been running into issues with the aerogarden and this is my first grow.
Right now I have three in veg state inside an Aerogarden deluxe unit. I've had issues with root rot due to high res temps not enough oxygen getting to the roots...snipped those and they recovered but now seems like a pain keeping the res temp down below 70. Ph 5.5-6...PPMs (will be getting a dip stick today) Currently running with about half a gal in there and some flora shield with two air stones. On a 12/8 timer and not using my CFLs yet because of the temps. Also be getting a fan today. Pics are below of the current unit.

Nutes (whole General Organics Go Box)

Veg-
GO Thrive Grow
CaMg
Flora Shield

Flower-
GO Thrive Bloom
Bio Bud
FloraShield

In a few hours im building my own aero unit and moving these plants into them

Heres what I'll be using

5gal
3-4 net pots( Havent decided)
300-500 GPH adjustable sub pump
18 ez clone 360 spray heads
Same Air stones using for the AG
neoprene inserts20140125_090610.jpg20140125_090655.jpg

Hope this makes things easier to control. Any inputs, questions or suggestions before I move them over feel free to comment I'll be updating ever weeke or so.

Switch to top feed in coco and hydroton and don't look back.

That's what I did. :)

Well here it is gentlemen. Took me a few hours but works like a champ. I added some aquashield to the aerogarden with my nutes and turned the drip pump back on along with an additional airstone.

PPMs are 500
PH was 7 but dropped it back down to 5.6 temp was at 70 but adding in a frozen water bottle in an hour or two

Starting week 3 in Veg BTW

Nice, what does the top of the bucket look like?

Make sure you have everything dialed in before flipping to 12/12. In soil you can usually correct a problem. In aero you can overlook something and lose all your girls overnight. <-----It's happened to me. Forgot to plug the pump back in. Guess what has never happened again..... Thanks to the worst yield I have ever gotten. Anyway. Good luck on your grow man. Look forward to see some healthy girls.

Get those to be healthy again. I hope the aqua shield works. I have never used that stuff before. Although, I haven't had any root issues either. Who knows. My root chamber is a 20 gal Rough Neck though. So that may help having more room for them to breathe.

I may try to build a vertical garden in my 4'x4' but we will see.

Sorry about rambling, lol. Back to your grow.

No worries man I like to ramble too ha. The top right now has 3 x 2" net pots with EZ clone neoprene inserts...might cut another hole out and throw in a 4th. Im still debating if i want to build a seperate res for the bucket system to make things easier or a drain plug...thanks for all your help my man!

Any idea on what could be causing these plants to be doing this? Water/PH/Humidity has been under control I might have added too much nutes(bio root, bio grow, calmag) but I was sitting at around 500ppm only 1/2 gallon of water with temps below 70. Humidity sits around 30-40 with the humidifier in there and have a cooling fan pointed at the CFLs now at the plant temp is about 70 +/- 2...

Before all that I snipped the bad roots till I saw white and took the sponge apart alittle bit at a time...theres a tiny but left but the babies are sitting in hydroton now and I had turned the drip system back on along with two air stones inside the tank.

Last night I turned off the drip system and left the airstones running overnight. This morning tank was lookin browner a bit from nutes and temp went upto 70 so I ruled out overwatering. Dumped the res, added fresh cold tap water 60degrees with 5ml aqua shield and phd to 5.8. PPMs 330 but my tap water standard PPMs at about 290. If anyones got anything let me know I turned the drip system back on growth is slow but roots/plants are fighting I can tell.20140128_102216.jpg20140128_103303.jpg20140128_103211.jpg

Keep the ppm's low until they are healthy again.

Maybe try some root booster... i.e. Rapid Root, CloneX or whatever. But only a little bit at a time. My ppm's stay under 400 until they are established.

aaaaand boom back in business20140201_080252.jpg

added some root booster 1-1-1two days ago about 2/5 of whats recommended
and last night added 2/5 of some cold processed seaweed 2-3-1 because i was still seeing some purple in the stems and wilting of the leaves also tips turning brown

after that this morning wokeup those roots as well as all my leaves straight looking great and back into growing

heres what i learned: keep humidity 40-55% to prevent necrosis of the leaf tips (most time i was at about 16-20% then added a humidifier)
if you have a temp of say 75-80 keep the res water temp no more than 70...i usually add in a frozen water bottle once im at 70 and ideally i like it at 60-65 when daytime starts (as ice cubes) *thanks yktind*
h202 is ok to add into the res 1:12 parts 3% or 1:40 parts 10% h202 every three days...ive just put a capfull in the AM of 3% every day or two and aquishield every 4 days
Different PH levels absorb different nutes so it's ok to adjust every 24hrs or every other day unless it spikes well above 7 or below 5

PH 5.5-7.5 (usually drop it as soon as i see it that high)
Using frozen water bottles keeping res temps no more than 75 degress. Normally 60-65
Realized GO Box nutes are garbage when it comes to hydroponics. Might be great for soil but caused me a lot of problems so i switched to the flora series.

Currently running veg 18/6
4x 23w CFLs 6500k a peice with the AG grow lights
Mylar behind the AG on cardboard

Using Tap water only....didnt see a diference just looked at the water report and does has to be supplemented with CaMag.

New Nutes:
Flora series : (Veg) Aquashield, Micro, Grow, Bloom, Rapid Root started at about tsp of each and 2.5ml rapid roo + 5ml Cal Mag. PPMd at 1200 but currently went down toe 1000. Water is 250 so discount that

Flower: Not sure yet but def koolbloom, grow, bloom, floralicious

Looking at the pics Im not really sure here I'll call it week two of vegging and push on for another 2-3 weeks. Hoping to get a mom and get some cutting for my cloning system then move to an EBB Flow perhaps or another aeroponic unit for a SCROG. Took me a WHILE to recover these but I'm getting things on point. Let me know if you have any inputs on the pics. The burns are possibly from the light because they dont show on the other side.

Running 1 gal of water and putting a capful of H202 every morning to help with oxygen. Looking to also either get a HPS/MH 400w kit for 100$ from someone or just get LEDs for 300 max if anyones got input. 4x4 room. Any help much appreciated I'm new but I'm always glued to books and reading about this

Wow you have those at over a 1000 ppm right now? Mine are at week 3 flower and can barely handle 950.

Just a thought: Personally I don't allow my Ph to swing above 6.5. 7.5 is extremely high for aero/ hydro.

Well discounting the water they're about 800ppm and slowly declining. Water temps been in check all night all day so has PH 6.0 so i think things are going the way they should now.

Also moved my setup to the laundry room (has exhaust van)....mylared half the wall too and the floor is pretty much ceramic tile so thats why temps have been good.

Wokeup...PH was in check no adjustment needed as well as the PPMs. res Temp was 60 and have some more root growth going on. Not to mention the plant is growing fast again. Picking up a 400w HPS/MH with ballast along with a 6 pot ecosystem and co2 for a sweet deal.

Sunday I'll do a flush bring the nutes up to strength according to the chart along with aqua shield and camag since my tap water doesnt have any Cal.20140207_074712.jpg20140207_074741.jpg

Nice bro I have the exact same aerogarden with 1 clone I just cut and 1 seedling growing (strawberry kush) . The kush plants roots are gigantic and I am getting worried they will clog my pump. The plant isn't even 6 inches long and the roots are at least 3 feet...That's what I get for adding rapid root lol.

Sorry to tell you but your plant is growing very slowly most likely from over nuting or not enough nutes, looking back at your posts my plant in my setup of the exact same system started smaller than your smallest plant and now is larger than your largest. My roots are much longer and healthy than yours, your nutes are not working right or you added too much. The yellowing in your leaves shows something is not right my plants in my aerogarden are totally green and the roots are white not brown like yours.

Nice man looks good. The reason for that is because i was using the GO Box the whole time which was a big no no for hydro...good for soil not hydro. Temps were above 80 so I ended up having root rot TWICE!...roots actually were longer than yours but I had to cut away at them and then supplement with aquashield for them to come back so that slowed the whole process down otherwise id be flowering by now. It took about 2.5 weeks to get them going again but I resurrected them. I dropped the GO Box and I changed over to flora series 3 days ago micro grow bloom rapid root and just got a 400w HPS/MH with ballast, co2, and some other goodies.....I'll race you! LOL but as of yesterday things are back under control(PH,res temps, PPMs, etc.). The yellowing of the leaves at the base are from not enough nutes in the past (GO Box) the top ones are from the flora series which infact overnight doubled in size. I know its going slow but its a learning process for me and I refuse to fail. Things are going way faster now

Yeah dont let that pump suck in the roots...my pump already went out but I have two air stones in there that are doing a good job. Rule of thumb is once the roots hit the water disable the pump so you can use it later
