So i've been noticing a lot of gnats around my plants. What are some methods of getting rid of them?

I heard putting a layer of sand over the medium works great. Is this true?

yea put 1in layer of sand around the top of pot and water from the drip tray. that way they can't lay their eggs in the top soil. you'll need to do it with all your house plants as well.

sweet man. thanks so much on the quick feedback. Does the sand affect the plants in any way?

Thank god i dont have any other houseplants haha

what about your garden it might be infested. the sand wont affect your plants in any way the sand is giving them relief from getting their roots nibbled.

10-15ml neem per litre H2o, if its emulsified it will be fine if not a small drop of hand dishwashing liquid to bind it to the water shake vigourously and soak the top soil slowly covering it all.

Neem is good for the roots and is used by some garden centres to boost plant vitality it protects rom fungus, bad bacteria and mites, thrips and larvae of fungus gnats and other flying insects.

I used a bunch of methods when I had them. Sticky paper, garden safe spray and no pest poison strips. I found none to work very well. I even put a thick layer of perilite on top of the soil. They just loved that stuff. So I tried neem oil and it took two applications about 4-5 days apart. I also only liberally soaked the soil as that is where they were. I never saw any on the plant. I also don't like the idea of drenching the plant in the neem oil. Worked like a charm.
