girlfriday's ghetto grow

Hi All!

Am a week into it, and doing a massive ghetto grow. Okay, massive is misleading. I got my hands on a lot of seeds so am starting off with just one because I tend to be a bit of a murderer. You know those helicopter mothers? I'm like that with my babies - and end up smothering them in love. Usually I drown them. I've been mindful of that this time though and my little baby seems to be doing ok.

I've just got it under a 9w 6500k CFL. I started it off on the windowsil, and only acquired the light yesterday. One of the leaves was sort of curled down (well, more pointing down rather than curled) however since being under the light (approx 24hrs now) it's looking a lot better. I've just moved it a little closer to the light to avoid stretching. I've been looking around for a higher watt CFL but haven't found one yet. Going to also make a wooden box and do a little set up, pics will come once I've done it, which will be over the next week.

This will be a complete CFL grow because I don't have the space/money for other lights. I'm only interested in doing small grows anyway, just want to create a personal stash. Have no intention of anything greater than that. Plus can't have too much around me because I will blow through it all

Will update with pictures over the weekend when I make my box and acquire higher watt lights

Well its day 14 since planting and things are going along slowly. I've only managed to find low watt CFL's and after a week on the window, she's been under 1 light for the past week. I've just added another two lights. I need to make a box and get some reflection going on in there. This has been quite the learning experience - in 14 days I've gone from knowing nothing to understanding kelvin, watts, different light sizes (e14, e27, Edison etc) why you need a fan..

The second lot of leaves are coming through. I'm hoping that the extra lights will give the little lady a bit of a boost. This is my learning experience grow (although.. do you ever stop learning?!) then later on in the year I intend to get into it properly to build up my personal stash.

I'll upload a photo (I know how ya'll love your grow porn ) when there is a bit more movement and my baby grows a bit.

oh one of my new lamps came with its own light so I have 2 9watt 6400k and 1 13watt 6400k. No where near ideal but as I said this is my test run! Will be acquiring stronger CFL's during a holiday in May to come roll my sleeves up and get stuck in to this in June

hahahahaha I have to take some pictures but first a little story.. (cos I know ya'll love to read over the grow porn... like reading hustler for the articles, yes?)

Well... she is growing really slow. Firstly this ghetto grow was her sitting in a little pot plant holder on top of some cd's and books to have the right amount of distance from the light.

Then the unthinkable happened.

The leaves started to die and curl upward and inward. Brown.. black.. sadness.

I was wondering whether it was time to commit homicide or of she could be saved. I tried the latter because I didn't want to go through all of this for nothing!

So at about a month old she's roughly two weeks behind in the grow rate (maybe my baby belongs on that special yellow bus) but the good news is - putting her in a bigger pot plant with some different soil has made a difference and she is starting to GROW! I also found a box of nutes I had floating around and have given her first dose.

My phone is charging at the moment but I will most definitely be back online to post some progression pictures. You'll have to forgive the shit phone quality but they'll give you the idea.

I'm going away in a month for six weeks so will be giving my brother a watering / feeding schedule and then will hopefully have a lady I can push into flower so it will be happy halloween for girlfriday!

The past few weeks have been full of downs, near deaths, and ups... I refuse to give up on my baby though!
