getting the lights extra edges

Hey, so I've been hearing about some little things to increase the amount of light to your plants. Things like fixing magnifying glasses to magnify the light onto the plant without the light circle getting too small (on sprouts) without burning them and things like mirrors being used on plants even outdoor to increase the amount of light, will these things work?
 
mirrors will kill ur plant fry em or make them grow away from the light.. at least this is my experiance with mirrors
 
just bring the lights closer to the plant about an inch with good air movement so u dont burn the plant. closer the better
 
u can also buy some mylar that is like 95% reflective so the light bounces back to the plants till it gets used
