germination trouble

hey ppl, this is my second grow, the first went awesome, didn't have any problems what-so-ever right from beginning to end, which is why I'm a little concerned that I can't get this second one underway. My first grow was mazar from dutch passion. I using a stealth hydro bubbleponics system and last time I started the seeds right in the system and turned it all on other than the lights, and 3 days later all 5 seeds where showing above the rockwool cubes and away I went, this time I'm trying to grow heavy duty fruity from THSeeds.

I started 3 seeds this time, right in the system, 2 weeks later, nothing. Once I was a week in, I started trying to read everything I could about germination. So I grab a toothpick, pick the seeds out and they look like I just put them in, so hoping to save them I quickly place them in a cup of water because I read one of the most common problems is the seed doesn't get saturated enough to crack open, at the same time I place 3 new seeds into a separate cup of water and place in a warm dark place.

48 hours later, still nothing from any of the 6 seeds, one of the new seeds I've tried to germ looked like it might be starting to crack, but I doubt it. I now have all 6 seeds folded into some damp sheets of paper towel between two plates also in a warm dark spot, it's been a day and still nothing from any of them!

Did I get a bad batch of seeds? Do I need to be more patient? Am I over watering them? I just don't understand everywhere I read leads me to believe that this should be the easiest part, all a seed needs to germ is water, warmth, and no light, some help or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Peace.

i am almost 100% successful using a wet (not dripping) paper towel. I just fold it then put the seeds in the middle fold and 2-3 days later I have sprouts. A lot of people soak them like your saying but I have never had to. I think the faq up top has info on germination. Read that and see what you come up with.

Thanks a lot for the fast repy! That will be my next step if none of this works, just place the last 4 seeds into damp paper towel and hope for the best. I've been all through the FAQ, it's my bible :) and the reason I don't have many posts, it usually has all the answers, but it doesn't seem to have much on germination, and I asume thats because it's supposed to be such a simple process, I dunno, it's just my first grow when so well, and I learned so much!! I upgraded everything I had, and completely revamped my grow room, and now I can't seem to even get started lol

Yeah only 1 time have I ever tried to germinate seeds like you are doing and coincidentally it was unsucessful.........ever since that 1 attempt I have never done anything else except the old school paper towel method, and that always seems to work for me

Same... I use the wet paper towl

Then I place it in a small bag, blow up and tie off and put it somewhere dark and warm

I used the papertowel method that is described commonly around the web. Wet paper towel on a plate, then I put some plastic wrap over it and put it above my fridge in a cupboard. However after 72hrs of nothing happening I planted 1 of the seeds just to see what would come of it, and out of the 6 seeds I tried to germinate the only one that showed any life was the one that I planted. Its now about 4" high and I'm still vegging it

thanks for all the replys people, just for an update, I'm in the process of trying the last four seeds of the 10 heavy duty fruity, but I'm not expecting much. I've since tried germinating some white berry seeds I had bought earlier, I tried right in the system, soaking in water for 48 hours and just the paper towel method, and all of the white berry seeds have sprouted no matter what method I tried, so I think I'm going to have to chalk this up to a bad batch of seeds, which really sucks, but at least my grow is on it's way now. Going to sends THseeds an e-mail and hopefully I'll get a refund or more seeds, but I guess this happens from time to time, thanks again everyone. happy growing!
Peace

I wonder what the temperature is you're keeping the seeds at. The first time I tried anything was with the W.Widow I bought. My friend said it has to be kept in a warm place and he suggested I use a heating pad. So, not knowing any better, I did just that. Well, one of the ten geminated (at $200+ that's expensive!!) and the rest were mush. Be sure your temp is correct. Also, a suggestion...after my first expensive mistake I practiced on bunk seeds that I'd accumulated over the years. I'm about 98% effective now.
